Single Review: Llovers - 'A Second With You'

Teeside's fresh new indie-pop darlings, Llovers, have released their second single “A Second With You”. With hints of influence from Echo And The Bunnymen and comparisons to Tame Impala, MGMT and The 1975, this heavenly track lures you into a hypnotic state of romanticism which is difficult to pull yourself out off. From the start we are blessed with such a beautiful guitar and synth arrangement which can only be describe as standing underneath a glistening waterfall in the moonlight.

I am perhaps too much of a hopeless romantic to be objective with my review but that is exactly why this songs captured by heart. As singer and guitarist Jack Brooks explains:

“The track is about my own disproportionate response to normal things in everyday life. I think most people my age romanticise so many things. The intention of the track was to celebrate the positively naïve nature of youth, while also poking fun at the reality of the outcome, which is actually something that’s just a bit oddly obsessive”.

All the best pop songs deal with matters of the heart, so Llovers are onto a winner straight away. “A Second With You” is full of lyrical gems; “Keep giving those eyes, they got me starlight” is perhaps my favourite line. The harmonious vocals are so soothing and endlessly dreamy, it gives me butterflies and it's just screaming out to be witnessed live.

Lucky for me and the other hopeless romantics out there, Llovers are playing a number of dates over the coming months.
