Single Review: The Faim - 'Summer Is A Curse'

Perth-based rockers The Faim have dropped catchy new single, ‘Summer Is A Curse’. Filled with pop-infused melodies and catchy beats, the song is an essential summer listening.

Pop-rockers The Faim have released their third single, ‘Summer Is A Curse’, which sees them building on their anthemic sound and establishing their reputation as one of the most exciting bands in the genre. The quartet has already racked up support for their previous tracks from the likes of VEVO, BBC Radio 1, Rock Sound, Alternative Press and more, and there is no doubt that this single will generate the same amount of excitement. The track was co-written with Ashton Irwin from 5 Seconds of Summer, and produced with the legendary John Feldmann, so you know it’s guaranteed to be a banger.

Speaking on the track, vocalist Josh Raven comments, “‘Summer Is A Curse’ is about taking the leap into a make or break situation that could grow into the beginning of a new era, or cause the end of what could’ve been. It’s about the paths we take, the dreams we have, and the things left behind to reach them.”

And nowhere is this sentiment more clearly communicated than through the line ‘If you never try then you never know’, revealing the hopeful yet apprehensive nature of the piece. Beginning with a heartfelt orchestral string motif, a steady piano chord and electronic beat accompaniment gives the listener something to latch on and bop their head to. Whispers of high orchestral strings float between phrases, adding a flair of dramatics to the track, and this is contrasted with Raven’s low vocals as he sings ‘Hearts don’t bleed like mine. All we need is time.’ A massive chorus thunders through the speaker as the drums join in, and it’s not difficult to envision this infectious chorus being screamed back to the band at their live shows.

Highly memorable and rousing, ‘Summer Is A Curse’ proves why The Faim are a band to keep your eye on as the excitement around them continues to build. You can catch The Faim and witness their electrifying performance throughout summer:
