Knox Brown - 'Dreamers'
Following up on an impressive six-track EP, released in 2016, and exquisite songwriting credits and collaborations with worldwide renowned artists among whom Beyonce, Jay Z, Janelle Monae or Emeli Sande, Knox Brown once again delivers nicely crafted music.
After ‘Always’, ‘FLEX’ and ‘Goosebumps’, the Birmingham talent charms us with his new single ‘Dreamers’, a resplendent piece of retrofuturistic music.
Starting with birds twittering on a light drum beat, then a wise marriage between guitar and bass notes, the rhythm is compelling, soul-stirring in its smoothness. There is a lovely sensation of being barefoot in the grass on a sunny day of spring that emanates from the song’s intro.
Accompanied by contrast by warm bass lines, the track then welcomes a high-pitched vocal – Knox Brown’s shifted voice bestows femininity. The words reverberate and waver – to which a background chorus adds to the flowing atmosphere.
This new single intentionally evokes a certain freedom and light-heartedness. In the press release, Knox Brown confirms our thoughts: ‘Dreamers’ is about “A feeling of being young and free and not being tied down to any one person but at the same time love is precious, I have reserves of that stashed for the right people! But while you’re young I always think ‘Celebrate your freedom!’”
The retro synthesizer notes remind us of Brown’s other songs – ‘Dreamers’ is an R’n’B quality follow-up to his colourful discography, and we decidedly cannot wait for it to flourish.
