Rosie Carney - 'Orchid'

Rosie Carney has seen her fair share of the music industry, in the last five years, but it is only since going independent that she has found her footing and is taking control of what has been the most consistent thing in her life.

After moving from Hampshire to Donegal at the age of ten, Rosie Carney found inspiration in the striking and rugged landscape of the Irish coast and started to write songs. You can feel the dramatic and moodiness of the songs takes reference from a familiar place. ‘Orchid’ is the latest single to be released from Carney’s upcoming debut album and it is a dysphoric tale of neglect and unfulfillment. Carney’s sound is hard to fit into one box. Most of the time it is heavily folk inspired, but it would be a discredit to her as an artist, to leave it there as she dips in and out of jazzier tones and also classical music.

Speaking of ‘Orchid’, Carney says; “as the song developed I saw the opportunity to really expand beyond my usual production and its now the most layered song on the album”. ‘Orchid’ is hopelessly romantic at its core and as it nears closer to its end, becomes a more complex feat with layers of strings and guitars to create the atmosphere of loss and emptiness that you cling onto, with the last bit of hope left in your body. “I’m sorry for the things that I can’t do for you. But in the morning, I’ll write another song for you”, Carney sings in her heartbreakingly raw voice, that knows how to pull at the heartstrings.

Rosie Carney’s debut album ‘Bare’ will be released on January 25th via Akira Records.
