Ganser – ‘Pastel’
Chicago’s Ganser confirm punk is here to stay, at least for a little longer, with their new single ‘Pastel’.
With the recent ‘post punk’ explosion that has appeared out of nowhere, you may think after hearing the few ‘mainstream’ bands of the genre may be enough and that others won’t compare. However, Ganser prove that this is not the case. They do fall into this style of music but have a different take on the genre compared to IDLES, Shame, and countless other brilliant new bands. It is great to see that this revival stretches over the pond too.
From the opening bass riff and scratchy guitars, you hear Gang of Four. The vocals sound like Alicia Gaines and Nadia Garofalo are the protégé of Siouxsie Sioux. Put this combination together and there is a hint of Sonic Youth. ‘Pastel’ addresses the need for attention and the feeling of having to constantly perform daily. You can hear the anxiety pour through the speakers.
‘Patel’ is a ferocious track and Ganser are a great band, and you need to check them out now.
