Jamie Lee Harrison - 'Powerful'

Newcastle born singer, songwriter and musician Jamie Lee Harrison leaves a lasting impression with his current single, Powerful’.

Jamie Lee Harrison is one of my favourite kind of artists. There’s an unassuming quality to his music. His vocal is a huge weapon at his disposable, that has the ability to captivate and subdue his listener. But it’s almost as if he still might not realise how gifted he is. Which makes ‘Powerful’ even more powerful. To have such an overwhelming and natural talent, yet still come across as humble is a really special attribute in a singer-songwriter and one I hope Harrison keeps for the entirety of his career.

Opening the track with a gentle piano arrangement and gorgeous string arrangements, Harrison’s evocative vocal is the focal point of the track and the poignancy of his lyrics is immediately felt. While the song is a plea for strength, there’s an omnipotent quality to some of the sonic elements which feels invigorating and makes his listener feel stronger too. ‘Powerful’ is also a fight song and this is deeply felt, especially on the track’s chorus, which sees Harrison’s takes back control. His vocal embolden against an infectious, bouncy guitar and piano melody that feels like hope.

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Powerful’, Jamie Lee Harrison says, “I wrote the song about overcoming my own personal fears and breaking through boundaries; battling the lack of self-belief that has held me back. I believe that every single person has a fire inside them, a passion and drive to fulfil. Some of us need help to ignite it. The message is that each individual is powerful in their own way. We can take control of that power, whether it’s gaining the courage to achieve our goals or just being comfortable in our own skin”.

I think ultimately what I like best about Harrison is his humanity, resilience and the way he has learned not to shy away or be ashamed of his pain. His thoughtfully crafted lyrics are devastatingly moving and relatable to anyone who has ever felt the way he has felt. For this reason, Jamie Lee Harrison is a Hercules of emotive pop music which makes him very powerful indeed.
