Bengal Lancers - 'Big Ideas'

London-based four-piece Bengal Lancers reflect on ambitious ‘Big Ideas’ discussed during moments of intoxication on new infectious indie pop cut.

I’m generally very picky about danceable indie-pop. A lot of it follows the same tried and tested formula which is catchy and perfectly fine but it’s not shouting anything that hasn’t been heard a thousand times over and I don’t get excited about that. Bengal Lancers are definitely channeling a Mystery Jets meets Two Door Cinema Club ethos in their infectious indie pop sound that begs your body to move. But it’s a darker take in an Editors / Interpol/ Bloc party vein that I find really endearing.

’Big Ideas’ sees Bengal Lancers creating a thrilling trrack that broods in all the right places and makes use of dark textures but it’s the kind of track that compels its listener to dance rather than to wallow. There’s a really nice post punk feeling to the song, but not in a throwback way, Bengal Lancers have created an intelligent contemporary sound that teeters on the the edge of anthemic without being overly predictable. Really intrigued to see where 2019 will take these guys.
