Little Brother Eli - 'Oops'
Oxford four-piece Little Brother Eli wrap up the year with ‘Oops’ their most explosive pop tune to date.
In 2016 Little Brother Eli released their debut album ‘Cold Tales’ that showed off a raw bluesy rock n roll influenced sound with subtle pop touches. This year, the band have pushed forward with a more refined sound, moving into danceable-disco rock territory with tight grooves, and catchy sing-alongpop hooks, without losing their edge.
’Oops’ opens with retro hip hop and funk arrangements before lead singer Alex Grew’s soulful vocal comes in, conversational yet playful as it rides the catchy electro rock pop arrangements Benji Pace on drums, Adam Stowe on guitar and Joshua Rigal on bass have laid down. One of my favourite things about the track is the transitions in the second half of the song. As the song develops, it starts to feel like a mashup of different influences and styles from the Bee Gees to 80’s influences like the Eurythmics before incorporating an early Maroon 5 sound with extra funk!
Little Brother Eli’s dark, danceable pop is delivered in such a way it feels colourful. This is a very well considered progression of sound that not only shows off Little Brother Eli’s extensive influences. But their ability to take a little of each style and create a very contemporary sound.
