Restless Modern - 'Forced Vacation'

Take some time out to listen to Restless Modern’s effervescent electronic pop cut, ‘Forced Vacation’.

Restless Modern first hit my radar at the end of 2017 with his genre-bending single, ‘I’m Okay’, showing his proficiency for creating multi-genre soundscapes that intelligently tap into his listener’s emotions, both sonically and lyrically. Restless Modern is the project of Jack Kieffer and he operates with a wholly DIY ethos in control of all aspects of his sound and career, constantly exciting me by which sonic direction he chooses to take on a track by track basis.

Truth be told, I enjoy Restless Modern best when his production is dark, urgent and gritty. But without day there is no night and songs lighter in tone like, ‘Forced Vacation’, are necessary to show off Restless Modern’s panache for creating songs which represent all kinds of moods. While there’s a mellow and gentle feeling to the song’s production, Restless Modern doesn’t scrimp on emotion in his vocal, ranging from cool and fresh to impassioned and emotive.

Thematically, ‘Forced Vacation’ is a song about manipulation and in terms of creativity, Restless Modern cleverly manipulates his listener into a false sense of security with the song’s light , sentimental textures, while hooking us into the heavier aspects of the conflict in the love story in the lyrical theme where Restless Modern is self-admittedly a little bit pissed off by the drama playing out in the narrative. Another honest and intriguing cut from an incredibly clued-up creative.
