James Morrison - 'My Love Goes On' (feat. Joss Stone)
James Morrison teams up with Joss Stone on soulful new single, ‘My Love Goes On’ taken from his upcoming album, ‘You’re Stronger Than You Know’ due out March 8th.
When I hear the name James Morrison, I think of the heart wrenching slow love songs of his early career, such as his single, ‘Broken Strings’ featuring Nelly Furtado that reached number 2 on the UK charts (can you believe that was released nine years ago?!). One thing I did not expect from this artist is the huge soulful ballad that is his new single, ‘My Love Goes On’. Also featuring the strong vocals from Joss Stone, the single is a huge sound radiating a deep passion beneath its lyrics.
There is a hell of a lot of feeling behind the vocals in this track - the voices of Stone and Morrison work so well together with both their slightly raspy tones hitting the big notes with a seamless quality. The connection between the two goes back a long way as Joss Stone presented Morrison with the BRIT award for British Male Solo Artist in 2007, and now they have come together to celebrate their love for soul music.
The soulful tone of this song feels like something that is going to be carried through his new album, ‘You’re Stronger Than You Know’, as Morrison has taken on his passions for Stax and Motown eras. The title speaks not only to the feelings put into this album but also to Morrison’s vocals; I can honestly say that I don’t think James Morrison has ever sounded as good as he does on this track. The album has developed from his struggles over the last few years and also touches upon his upbringing with his parents in the previous single, ‘Slowly’. Family is said to be a consistent theme throughout the album with the closing track, ‘Until The Stars Go Out’, written in support of his eldest daughter when she was bullied in school.
James Morrison seems to be coming back to the UK mainstream with his new album now available to pre-order and the announcement of his first full UK tour in three years. This tour will include a London show at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on the 27th of March and I will be interested to see if he puts as much feeling into his live performances as he does this track.
