Planet Case - 'Chemical'

Finland’s Planet Case build on their 2008 EP, ‘Simple Thoughts’ with ‘Chemical’ showing off a bigger and bolder Indie Pop sound for 2019.

From its playful opening to its big soothing, sing-along hook, ‘Chemical’ has all the markings of a huge, deeply sincere pop hit. Led by a soulful, emotive vocal and supported by a soundscape of grooving retro guitar-work, bubbling synth, subtle percussive touches and just general awesomeness, the band also remove some of their more alt electronic touches seen on ‘Simple Thoughts’ and embrace a fuller, more guitar driven, commercial, indie pop sound.

While very sonically proficient, Planet Case are equally impressive in their ability to craft thoughtful lyrics that feel really fresh and that’s not a surprise with Scandinavia being renowned for penning beautiful pop tunes! Planet Case’s new sound definitely takes up the space between The 1975 and Imagine Dragons, but also doesn’t sound like it is mimicking either of those acts. That’s what makes ‘Chemical’ even more charming; it’s familiar and hooky yet Planet Case retain their own personality. ‘Chemical’ is an exciting and uplifting, endorphin-pumping track that sounds better and better the more times you play it.
