Pale Honey have just released their new single ‘Set Me Free’, their first piece of music since the band’s 2017 album ‘Devotion’. Along with the record, the band have also teased us with the news of an album coming out in February 2020. They took a moment to talk to us about the new track and their plans for the future.

Your track ‘Set me Free’ is out now, can you tell us what track is about?
The track is about a breakup. We spent a long time working on all the different elements of it. In the end we had a song about setting yourself free, and something that we could dance to and laugh about in the end. It was a very freeing experience.

Where was the track recorded? Any behind the scenes stories you are happy to share with us from the recording process?
We recorded the song at Nacksving Studios in Gothenburg, an old and very beautiful studio. We have the perks of having Anders, who is a resident at Nacksving, as our producer, live musician and best friend. He really put everything he could into the song, since it grew from an old demo we couldn't quite get right. We all had this idea of it being “the disco song” from the album. We also made up an ugly dance to it while mixing.

This is your first piece of music you have released since your 2017 album ‘Devotion’, it’s a little taste of what your third album is sounding like. What can we expect from it?
It is, and it feels like such a long time since Devotion came out. Lots of things have happened in our lives and the world since, and we’ve definitely been writing songs in between happenings and tour dates. Right now we are so very very close to finishing up the entirety of album three (which still remains unnamed) but you can expect the songs to have their own personalities and sounds. We love each and every track on the upcoming record and it has really been a two year long process to pick out and expand each of them. It's going to be a great album.

What musical inspirations have you drawn on for the track and the album?
That is a good question. We really just wanted to make something a bit more wild. That didn’t necessarily mean have to have distorted guitars and five different cowbells. The track really seemed to crave some kind of, four on the floor, disco, dance vibe and we’re not so much for compensating. We might have ended up with an Alice DeeJay – ‘Better Off Alone’ little sister. It's hard to say, sometimes it feels like we’re really just three cavemen in the studio.

Now the track is out there, what next? What are your plans for the next few months?
We hope that it gets to have a decent life on the radio for a while, in the meantime we will be in the studio, preparing for touring in Germany, England and going to Hong Kong for a festival gig. Really exciting! We will also put the last touches to the album, nail all the details about artwork and other visuals. 2020 here we come!!!
