GURU – ‘Don’t Talk’/’LTD’

GURU’s brand-new double A side single ‘Don’t Talk’/’LTD’ further proves that they are one of the best bands to come out of the Brighton punk scene.

GURU’s full throttle punk rock sound cannot be ignored. In their recordings, they push the limit with everything in the red. The only thing stopping them from creating complete chaos is how unbelievably tight they play. GURU’s double A-side single release ‘Don’t Talk’/’LTD’ proves this remarkably.

As you would expect from GURU, there are big riffs that are complemented by a monstrous rhythm section. The clever lyrics are spat and snarled by Tommy Cherrill like John Lydon, especially when he rolls his tongue and hisses in pure angst and disgust. This is truly represented in ‘Don’t Talk’, a song about “learning from others […] It’s a cry a frustration”.

‘LTD’ is an interesting one from the Brighton punkers. It’s GURU’s longest recorded song at over five and a half minutes and it is slower paced. But that doesn’t mean it lacks bollocks – it’s still a heavy and ballsy number, particularly in the Oi punk/football chant style backing vocals of “LTD!”
