Girl Power is set to shake up the North East music scene in a big way, with the newly-formed bigfatbig releasing their debut single ‘Science’.

The beginnings of this trio stem from a ten year friendship between guitarist Katie Ryall and vocalist Robyn Walker, who is also the face of another up and coming North East band PICNIC. The friends wrote songs behind the scenes and now after eleven months of planning and with the recruitment of bassist Chaz Hall, the trio are ready to turn heads and show themselves to be something completely unique in an increasingly crowded North East scene.

‘Science’ is only the first for the group, with their live debut coming up on the 9th of this month at Newcastle’s Cumberland Arms and with the talk of an hour’s worth of material, it’s set to be quite the debut.

The length of time that it’s taken for this trio to show themselves to the world shows that bigfatbig are perfectionists and wanting to put their best foot forward, ‘Science’ is certainly that as it seamlessly blends surf pop with grunge to highlight issues that women face in modern society. The opening riff reminds of The Subways which is an instant hook, with the lyrics brilliantly tackling the modern dating sphere and how the trio have grown “tired” of being mistreated by men.

‘Science’ in their own words is a big “fuck you” to this, a breath of fresh air and certainly not something that we’ve heard from the North East scene previously.  I’m very excited to see how bigfatbig carve their own unique path going forward.

‘Science’ is available now on all major streaming platforms and Big Fat Big will play their debut show at the Cumberland Arms in Newcastle upon Tyne on November 10th.
