Sweden based musician, producer and composer Rie offers a beautiful lesson in tenacity on enchanting single, ‘So I Dance’.
Rie sets a sombre, ethereal tone for ‘So I Dance’ as she expertly layers ominous and intriguing textures to create a sound the evokes all the senses. ‘So I Dance’ relies heavily on spaciousness , timing, and suspense. The track skitters with a restless soul as Rie flitters affecting instruments in and out of the track with a deft hand, creating a rich, haunted soundscape that keeps its listener curious.
Rie has a very special way of delivering a melancholic vocal performance from a place also rich with soulfulness and sunshine. As the track develops, Rie turns gloom into strength as she finds empowerment in the affirmation, “the sun will rise, I’m no longer running” and keeps on dancing, seeing the track gleam with hope and beauty.
Rie is the project of Norwegian musician, producer and composer Marie Hanssen Sjåvik who is currently based in Järna, Sweden. ‘So I Dance’ is taken from her visionary 12-track debut album ‘Follow Through’ where she played most of the instruments including piano, guitar, ukulele, organ, live voice loops, and drums to name a few.
