Urchin - 'Night Light' & 'Blame It'
London based musician and producer Urchin weaves lo fi sounds through retro indie funk aesthetics on contagious single, ‘Night Light’ (feat Archie Lyon-Maris) which precedes his stunning new single, ‘Blame It’ (feat. Grace Walker).
‘Night Light’ bursts to life through vibrant splashes of sonic colours inspired by airy afropop riffs and slick beats that rolls into a funky retro inspired 80s with tight guitar and drum sounds. Urchin has created the track to be equally as engaging in its instrumentation, lyrics and its gorgeous, smooth vocal delivery courtesy of Archie Lyon-Maris , keeping its listener tangled up in a relentlessly feel-good tune with a punchy lyrical theme.
On the track Urchin explains: “I first met vocalist Archie Lyon at a school - aged 16 - where I was teaching him guitar. He was a talented singer and guitarist and I always knew he would do well with music. Archie reached out to me after the release of my debut EP ‘Take Time’ and we ended up writing 'Night Light' in one 6 hour session. Other than another final vocal recording day and a drum tracking day, this track was finished in that first day and felt really easy and natural”.
’Night Light’ precedes Urchin’s stunning new single, ‘Blame It' which features Grace Walker’s incredible 90s soulful rnb vocal and is a heartfelt song that stays afloat on a buoyant samba/latin drum rhythm, layered with nervy ambient synth, subtle UK Garage influences and a familiar atmospheric guitar melody (think Lost Frequencies - ‘Are You With Me’ ).
Urchin is the project of Leo Appleyard who is championing a fresh, emotive and knowledgeable electronic sound that is well worth getting excited about. ‘Night Light’ and ‘Blame It’ are out now via BonFire Records.
