Moonlight Social - 'Know Me'

American alternative duo Moonlight Social explore a new electronic pop direction on stylish sad bop single, ‘Know Me’.

Written, produced, performed, recorded mixed and mastered in their bedroom, ‘Know Me’ shows off a strong DIY ethos that is polished for commercial appeal. This is a mature electro pop song that carries a catchy folk pop sensibility. ‘Know Me’ shows off the more sugary, lighter, mainstream side to the duo’s sound as the track takes its listener through a fun soundscape of snappy electronic beats, emotive, upbeat riffs and jittery synth.

Moonlight Social also bring in a little bit of autotune and vocal manipulation to add a smooth modern touch to the production. This allows the vocal melody to glide effortlessly off the duo’s upbeat production, creating a sound that is infectiously feel good despite the sadder tones to the lyrical theme as Moonlight Duo explain:

We started writing this song after a particularly heartbreaking conversation with an old flame. It's about that in-between moment we all go through in trying to figure out just what a relationship is going to be — if it can even be anything. That's where the line, "Remember we were friends — or is this where that ends?" comes from.

After we had that line, the song poured out of us. Jeremy started with the guitar riff and when we got into the home studio started taking Jennica's different vocal lines and chopping them up in fun and cool ways to make the various little "ear candy" components. We paid attention to every little nuance and detail because we knew something about this song felt special. We hope that attention to detail and emotion comes out in this song”.

An exciting new direction from an accomplished outfit with a broad taste in music who aren’t afraid to mix things up a bit.
