The Band Explains: Banfi - 'The furniture song'

Indie three-piece Banfi  talk to us about their lighthearted new video for ‘The Furniture Song’, the first single from their third EP, ‘Travel Bands’  which is out now!

Where was the video for 'The furniture song' filmed?
It was filmed around the Brick lane area in Shoreditch, East London. There’s a lot of history around there (the worst slum in London was there called the Old Nichol) and with living and forming as a band in Homerton we spend a lot of time around that area and Bethnal Green.

How does the video connect with the song?
The song’s about a lonely isolated person, the video’s a lot of people dancing alone. But they are all alone together (literally cut and spliced together). It’s all just a way of saying we’re all in this together I suppose.

Do you have any behind the scenes stories you could share with us?
Aaron’s dad is in the video! He was in town visiting Aaron and his brother and they were in their way to a football match and he agreed to be in it. And there was a man from Scandinavia who started taking his clothes off... if Niall cuts together an X rated version we’ll send it to you :)

Could you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
I think the question of imagery is for Niall the director. The theme of the lyrics is just trying to find the humour and tragedy in the type of loneliness we’ve ended up with today.

Is there a message the video is trying to convey?
The overall message is whatever you take from it. The viewer is a much better judge of what the message is than what we think it should be. Each to their own sort of thing!
