The Artist Explains: Thomas Keating - 'Toward The Cause'
Thomas Keating talks to us about his creative DIY lyric video for charming indie rock single, ‘Toward The Cause’.
Where was the lyric video for Toward The Cause’ filmed?
The video for Toward the Cause was filmed in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, on the Hume Highway and the NSW regional town Wagga Wagga.
Why did you choose to create a lyric video for this single?
Well, I wanted to do a clip for the song but had no budget. I started putting together a slide show on my computer with the lyrics coming up on the photos, I soon found it was really boring and uninspiring and thought maybe I could do better than this.
Do you have any behind the scenes stories you could share with us?
Well, the whole thing was pretty interesting and quite spontaneous. I bought a piece of cardboard and some chalk from Kmart and then just made it up as we went along filming it on my IPhone 8.
Can you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
I guess I wanted to do a lyric video that was interesting, and kind of light hearted and fun, not so earnest you know ( song writing can be pretty serious business!). It was inspired by Dylan’s video but I thought that in today I need to be more environmentally conscious and I cant just be throwing pieces of paper away with each line on them.
What do you hope people take away from watching the video?
I just hope they find it fun and are able to relate something with in themselves to the song and message.
