Video Premiere: EC Gold - 'Heartless'
Newcastle artist EC Gold recently dropped his new single ‘Heartless’, he took a moment to talk to us about the track, and we are also delight to be able to give you an exclusive look at this stripped back performance of the song.
Your new single ‘Heartless’ is out now, what is the track about?
This track is about doing something a little stupid - rushing in. When you end up WITH someone before you KNOW someone because you got carried away with that crazy feeling. That moment you realise you’re destined to crash is definitely the source of inspiration I drew on for this track!
It was recorded with Carey Willetts, who has worked with some amazing musical names, how did that partnership come about?
Carey is amazing! I’m very lucky to be working with such a forward thinking writer and producer. In actual fact the first song I ever learnt on guitar was his - ‘Wires’. Our creative partnership came about very naturally. We wrote a couple of songs together when I was younger and got on super well. When I decided to properly go for it this year, FutureKind suggested I meet Carey and I said I already knew I’d love to work on the EP with him!
You are based in Newcastle, what are your favorite things about it?
My favourite things about Newcastle have to be the people and the music! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. There’s a wicked creative scene that’s very supportive.
Where are the best places to get a pint and see some decent live music in Newcastle?
The Cumberland Arms (where I recently played my first headline show), Think Tank, The Cluny and if you fancy playing yourself, there’s a lively open mic at Holy Hobo.
Now the single is out, what are your plans for the next few months?
The next few months are going to be crazy and I’m super excited about it. I’ve got the rest of my first EP to come and I’ve also got tons of new ideas spinning round my head. I’m back in the studio with Carey this week to get started. I’m hoping to get stuck into my live set and push myself creatively!
