The Band Explains: Will And The People - 'Gigantic'
Will And The People talks to us abut the heart-warming single and visuals for ‘Gigantic’ which highlights the importance of family and community.
Where was the video for ‘Gigantic’ filmed?
At the band house in Berkshire, UK. We have lived there together for nearly 10 years now .
How does the video connect with the song?
The song itself is about the strength of family and community ... getting together and showing people you love them . That’s exactly what we wanted the video to be so we just used all our families. I believe the connection is very close and that’s why the video works .
Any behind the scenes stories you could share with us?
Our Granny was in the video and she used to be an actress. There are nearly 5000 A4 photos of portraits of people in our living room and we have kept them there, we thought it would be intense to keep but now reckon it would be more intense to take them down as we are so used to them.
Can you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
The inspiration was our 2013 album cover for “Friends”
We started off by going around Brighton and London filming people looking at the camera, then that kind of morphed into something more analogue, where we decided to decorate our house with these portraits (amongst many others) and get our family to turn up while we were rehearsing. We also had a cashew and pineapple curry, sounds weird.. but it was fucking amazing :)
Is there a message the video is trying to convey?
Share, communicate, appreciate and love one another . A very simple message . It makes me happy to watch and that was really all I wanted to achieve initially. I think we did this as it’s a charming clip. But the messages are real and especially in a time when people tend to talk more online than real life, it feels appropriate to talk about the most important thing we have which is each other.
