No Mono - 'Black Light'

No Mono indulge in a dark and ambient indie electronic affair on new album ‘Islands part 2’ which includes the exhilarating single, ‘Black Light’.

Showing off a thrilling blend of contemporary r&b and electro pop influences, ’Black Light’ is arguably No Mono’s most accessible track on their new album, ‘Islands part 2’. Sonically, the track makes use of dark, warped aesthetics in both Tom Snowdon’s compelling manipulated vocal and Tom Iansek’s production overall. No Mono have created a song that is richly textured, emotive and warm despite the more twisted and slightly foreboding atmosphere the duo have created and this is a common theme throughout the entirety of their new album.

’Black Light’ moves at a brooding pace yet is never dull. This is a song infused with suspenseful sonic dramatics to compliment the intensity in the lyrical theme as ‘Black Light’ thematically depicts the conflicted thoughts and emotions when deciding whether to leave a relationship and the trouble with communicating honestly. But it’s not all negative, as Tom sings, “It’s time to kill this thing off to make it something that we were proud of”, seeing ‘Black Light’ explore the mature concept of leaving a relationship on good terms and cherishing the memories, before getting to the point of dysfunction and bitterness.

’Islands part 2’ is 11 tracks of pulsating, haunting, excellence seeing the lyrical themes and vocal delivery equally as enticing as the track’s exploration through stunning, tension-building electronic influences . ‘Islands part 2’ is out now via Pieter and available to stream or purchase via your preferred listening method, here.
