Band Of The Week #0086 - The Modern Strangers

This week’s Band Of The Week is Tunbridge Wells based band The Modern Strangers, who have just released their ‘Visions EP’, which is filled with disco pop gems to bewitch you to the dance floor. We had a chat with the band about the release and their plans for the future.

Where was the EP recorded? Any behind the scenes stories?
All the tracks were written in different places but all recorded in Chertsey with our producer Gordon Mills Jr. Magic Hour was actually written whilst on a trip to LA, that's the most exotic. The others were written either at home in Kent or in London!

Is there a reason why it’s called ‘Visions’, what is the meaning behind it?What inspirations are behind the songs on the EP?
It was named after the title track 'Visions'. I suppose that song is about having an ex love interest pop up in strange and random situations, be it in a memory at a place you used to go or in conversation. That idea is a theme throughout the whole EP.

There are some funky disco vibes to the release, do you have an ideal disco playlist? What gets you dancing?
Absolutely, I've made a playlist called 'pure pandemonium' that I'm convinced could get anyone dancing. It's a private playlist at the moment, but I might chuck it on the TMS profile.

You are based in Tunbridge Wells, is there much of a music scene there? What is your favorite venue there to go see live music?
Yeah there is, we don't get to spend much time there anymore, but The Forum has always been the place to go for live music. It was essentially the place we learnt how to play live over the years (in different bands growing up)

Now the EP is out there, what next? What are your plans for the next few months?
We've got a few summer festivals which we're looking forward to, and then we're gearing up for our first ever UK headline tour which is very exciting. We've also got a few songs that didn't fit on this EP that we'll finish up and release before the tour!
