Miss June - 'Enemies'

Having already supported the likes of Foo Fighters, Wolf Alice, and IDLES, it’s no surprise that New Zealand post-punkers Miss June are rapidly gaining traction. In May, Miss June released two songs and unknowingly, we were given an insight to their debut album with the fiercely moody and eponymously named single, ‘Bad Lucky Party’.

Speaking of their latest single ‘Enemies’, vocalist Annabel Liddell says: “this song is many things, a tribute to lost lovers, an anthem for lingering feelings, but above all a reminder that your enemy’s enemies are not your friends.” The song is a lot more biting and vicious than some of their other offerings, but it is still Miss June in the tone of its direct and harsh lyrics: “you are a bad man just like my father / if you see me let me go / oops, I broke your heart again.” There appears to be more angst and anger in ‘Enemies’ as opposed to ‘Twitch’ which is a little more indie – Miss June seem to be showing us their many faces.

‘Bad Luck Party’ will be released via Frenchkiss records on 6th September.
