Inspired #0046 - Lily Denning
This month Lily Denning returned with her new single ‘Me, Myself & I’, which was co-written with Nick Atkinson and Edd Holloway. She took a moment to talk to us about all the things that inspire her.
Who are you top three musical inspirations?
One of my top musical inspirations is BANKS - mainly because her sound is individual but also because she has so much input into the production of her music which is something I've always wanted to do. Another musical inspiration is of course Rihanna. I think she's the most honest, authentic and independent human being but also an insaaane live performer. Lastly, my most recent obsession and inspiration is Stormzy - especially after his Glastonbury 2019 performance. Along with being beautiful, I think his modesty and gratitude is admirable but also his ideas are so contemporary and relevant its just super refreshing to see.
Is there a certain film that inspires you?
One of my all time favourites and most inspirational films is 8 Mile, maybe because I've always had an obsession with Eminem but also the 'Ending battles' is completely iconic and my go to watch on youtube ever since I was about twelve.
What city do you find the most inspiring?
I think London to me is by far the most inspiring city. I may be biased seeing as I live an hour away but I associate London with my music and all the opportunities that lie ahead, so no where else can really beat that!
Who is the most inspiring person to you?
I don't think I could even pick one person who inspires me the most but whenever I need inspiration I watch 'Rihanna's best comebacks' and it sorts me out.
How would you like to inspire people?
I guess my main ambition is to keep everything very real and honest and hopefully inspire people through that - especially with the younger generation I think honesty is more easily being disguised and that its increasingly important to be true to ourselves (as cliche as that sounds!).
