Shore Drive - 'Chaser' (feat. Stella in the Clouds)
Shore Drive work through post breakup blues on beautiful atmospheric folk single, ‘Chaser’ (feat. Stella in the Clouds).
Affecting finger picking reflectively opens Shore Drive’s ‘Chaser’ with all the poignancy of a mid noughties City and Colour cut from the ‘Sometimes’ album. A tranquil opening for a song drenched in melancholia as lead singer Anthony Terlizzi’s atmospheric vocal bleeds into Stella in the Clouds warm, ethereal vocal with an underlying downtrodden 90s rock grit that could draw comparisons to Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse.
On the track the band explains, “Chaser signifies the reflective state-of-mind after a breakup. You can learn a lot about yourself and get lost in your surroundings. Finding yourself second guessing everything and finding it hard to take the next steps out of your comfort zone. Constantly trying to take those steps but ending up back where you started. Forgetting what it's like to be a free spirit and to feel a connection with someone else. Feelings come and go but life always moves on”.
’Chaser’ is a soul-stirring cut comprised of textured guitar tones, subtle thumping percussion, ambient synth and sombre yet lush, layered vocals, providing ample space for sobering contemplation. A tender backdrop to guide its listener through an internal search for the tools to move on from a lost connection with a significant other, while also recognising the parts of ourselves we also lose and must rebuild in in the process of starting over.
