The Artist Explains: Will Samson - ' Ochre Alps'

Will Samson speaks to us about his stunning visuals for tranquil single ‘Ochre Alps’ which uses interpretive dance and natural elements to create a lucid dream world.

Where was the video for 'Ochre Alps' filmed?
Greece!

How does the video connect with the song?
The video and song are very much intertwined. The song was loosely based on a dream and psilocybin experience I had, and the video takes place within a lucid dream landscape.

Do you have any behind the scenes stories you can share with us?
The original concept was only going to include Lily Marks (the female dancer). Humbly, she suggested that a male friend of hers (Ihsaan De Banya) get involved and become the central role instead – as she felt his style / ability would better match the fluidity of the water.

Could you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
The landscape and sunlight illustrates a lucid dream world. The white blindfolds are there to represent the dreamers' vision – and also a silencing of mental and external distractions, allowing them to fully inhabit the body. The water is the serenity that can be felt within such meditative states – but also a reminder to allow the characters to align themselves with the fluidity and power of moving water.

What is the message the video is trying to convey?
The song is really about a dream (and psilocybin journey) I had and so I would like to leave it open to interpretation, since my subjective experience would be too much to unravel and articulate. Specifically with the video, we wanted to make it a celebration of being fully present within the body. Hopefully (albeit ambitiously) it can remind the watchers of the possibility to switch off the mind and fully inhabit the body.
