Mush – ‘Revising My Fee’

An anthem for the forever in debt.

‘Revising My Fee’ is the latest single from Mush.  It’s the newest offering from the Leeds quartet, following their brilliant single ‘Eat the Etiquette’. ‘Revising My Fee’ comes ahead of their highly anticipated debut album 3D Routine. You’d be foolish not to get excited.

The dysfunctional twang of the countless cool guitar lines hark back to the genius of Television and Richard Hell and the Voidoids. Dan Hyndman’s vocals complement this perfectly with his own hiccup twang. The track verges on a psychedelic acid trip, courtesy of the guitar breaks. The first two are melodic, but the third morphs into a blanket of noise and feedback that is only held together by the solid rhythm section. This is a proper guitar jam track that all guitar players will love. Tyson is already the guitar hero of 2020.

But the guitar wizardry is not mindless. It’s angry and experimental yet serves as the ideal backdrop for Hyndman’s lyrics: a “gripe about work/life balance and the generational divide. […] And essentially just how financially poor the younger generation tend to be currently.” In doing so, Mush allow you to get enraged at your current situation in the most healthy way for any music fan.
