’Never Again’ makes an instantly captivating introduction for itself with its brooding instrumentation and eerie, ambient atmospherics. Vocalist Sophia Medina’s haunting vocal cuts through the ambient, chiming instrumentation with a beautiful melancholia that really resonates. Made Of Stone have an excellent ear for suspenseful arrangements, and are an outfit concerned with spaciousness and timing to make sure every note and lyric impacts with evocative precision.
There’s an incredible mystery to ‘Never Again’ that makes its listener feel far removed and distant, pleasantly lost in the track’s hypnotic, hazy, smokey layers. But then the band pull their listener back in, entangling them in a web of upbeat math rocky meets post rock arrangements that feels light and hopeful. This song sends a shiver across my skin in the most epic of ways, every time I listen to it.
