Ben Strawn - 'Let it Die'

Singer Songwriter Ben Strawn releases 80s tinged alternative rock on on ‘Let It Die’, an upbeat track concerned with moving on from whatever weighs you down.

Ben Strawn wrapped up 2019 with nostalgia drenched tune, ‘Let It Die’ that pulls its listener in with a tight 80’s retro groove featuring sharp percussive beats and spikey, shimmering, roaring, riffs. Strawn’s vocal comes in smoothly, introducing a gentle and completely catchy pop melody that is pleasantly washed out and atmospheric to reflect the track’s introspection.

While this is a song with a strong lyrical theme and an emotive, honest vocal delivery, Strawn has a great ear for call and response in the instrumentation. The production leaves plenty of room for vivid instrumental breaks, seeing different textures teased in and out of the piece and great play on timing to create an emotionally dense, thought-provoking and fun sound that ebbs and flows with stream of consciousness effect.

On the track Strawn explains, This is a song about breaking up with/leaving behind anything that holds you down. Whether it be a relationship or an inner demon, I wrote this song to invoke confidence in myself and whoever listens to it that you can just move on and protect yourself from whatever holds you back”.

’Let It Die’ is taken from Strawn’s new ten-track album, ‘See It In Colour’ that draws from a variety of influences including country/ americana, indie rock, alternative rock, and 80s to create an eclectic record that has an all-inclusive tracklisting to satisfy both the lover of slow songs and those into more upbeat and energetic songs. A really lovely listen.
