Outer Stella Overdrive – ‘I Say’
‘I Say’ is the latest release from London’s Outer Stella Overdrive.
At just under two minutes, it’s a great and exciting piece of gnarly garage punk rock. The shouting of “Blast off!” followed by the “ooo ooo” hooks draw you in immediately as the band play with swagger and vigour.
Despite the music’s nod to classic, almost tongue-in-cheek rock n’ roll, the lyrics are on a much more serious note. ‘I Say’ is a “a homage to the friends we lost this year to suicide” and about “checking in on your neighbour and letting them know they aren’t alone.” Combine the two and you get a feel good danceable rock n’ roll record that encourages humanity to look out for one another.
