Firewoodisland - 'Mutually'
Firewoodisland share an open letter to anyone who is struggling to open up on intimate indie folk single, ‘Mutually’.
’Mutually’ crackles with authenticity and intimacy seeing Stian and Abi’s Firewoodisland’s honeyed and pure, folk vocals come together in a really compelling way, reminding me of the ethos of UK duo’s Oh Wonder and Meadowlark. ‘Mutually’ is a beautiful song born from shivery organic instrumentation with a contemporary twist, which provides the track with a warm, grounded feeling.
But Firewoodisland’s use of atmospheric sonics also adds an alluring and peculiar ambience that feels reverent, but also dreamy, giving the track a floaty sensation, almost making it feel suspended in time, as the duo externalise internal feelings. In turn, this allows their listener to also step outside of themselves and connect with others.
On the track Firewoodisland explain: "Mutually is one of the most honest songs we've ever written. A fragile and intimate story about needing to be seen and cared for. It’s not easy admitting that you need help. It takes a lot of courage and strength. If you’re struggling, you don’t have to do it alone. Open up to someone close."
An incredibly heartening and honest track that is relatable, but also takes you somewhere else for three and half minutes of blissful reflection.
