Stu Wood - 'Your Light Will Follow'
London based indie-folk songwriter, Stu Wood, took lockdown as an opportunity to reconnect with music- finding the stillness in this new lifestyle we’ve all been plummeted into. For musicians, coronavirus has either halted their plans, or sparked a creativity that might have been kept under covers due to a busy work-life. As a lawyer, Stu Wood’s case is the latter.
Breaking onto the scene with his debut single, ‘Your Light Will Follow,’ we’re met immediately with gently plucked acoustic guitar, generating the warmth of an autumn day spent indoors. Then his voice sweeps in like the white foam of a shoreline’s water, husky and wise, as though he’s been telling stories and reciting life-affirming mantras forever.
There are orchestral qualities to this track, a string section and a crashing beat that exemplify the grand nature imagery in the lyrics. Above anything, this song is elemental. It’s begging you to travel and find yourself after experiencing something life changing. It’s a glimpse of light in the darkest of times, both for Stu personally, and for listeners amidst this bizarre, once-in-a-lifetime global situation.
