Circe - 'Ruined Your Sons'
Following her stunning July single ‘Ten Girls’, Circe has returned with lush slow burn ‘Ruined Your Sons.’ The release comes with the announcement of a much-anticipated EP ‘She’s Made of Saints’, out 25th November via Jazz Life. The title, archetypal of Circe’s fascination with subverted catholic imagery and the ethereal, is taken from this latest single.
The track’s rich atmosphere, crafted out of lush synths and cool, swelling textures evokes a kind of heavenly melancholy. The lyrics seem to emanate from a compassionate distance as she depicts the damage a society that rewards machismo inflicts on male ability to express sensitivity. ‘Ruined Your Sons’ she says “tackles society’s obsession with hyper-masculine performance and bravado, how it destroys the inherent sensitivity we are born with.“
As with much of Circe’s music, ‘Ruined Your Sons’ is a master class in cinematic slow burn. A characteristically rich canvas of synths above a carefully minimal beat provides a bed for Circe’s gorgeous, multi-textured voice to flood across. Listeners might imagine the song rising over the credits of a melancholic indie sci-fi, or soundtracking an outsider romance.
‘Ruined Your Sons’ is a stunning addition to a growing catalogue of beautifully crafted alt pop, created both with glamour and a conscientious heart.
