Orla Gartland – 'Pretending'
Rising Dublin singer songwriter Orla Gartland shares stunning new single ‘Pretending’.
‘Pretending’ is a song for introverts. Guided by the poignant melodies of re-verb heavy guitars, Orla talks about the struggles of small talk. “Conversations with strangers are exhausting when everyone's playing a part and God knows I've been guilty of it,’ she explains. “‘Pretending’ is a song about being done with putting on an act for other people. I wanted the heart of the song to feel like you've separated yourself from the group and cut away all the chaos around you, only to be left with your own voice.” As calm verses break into a roaring pre-chorus, Orla’s vocals shine with unfiltered emotion. “I’m so fucking self-aware it’s exhausting” she sings, speaking straight from the heart. It’s this kind of strikingly confessional lyricism that makes Orla stand out from the crowd and ‘Pretending’ resonate deep within your core.
The lead single taken off Orla’s highly anticipated debut album, ‘Pretending’ is a fantastic first glimpse at new material. Unapologetically honest and vulnerable, it’s another beautiful example of her very personal brand of alt-pop and fuels excitement for more.
