St. Buryan - 'Torn Apart'
St. Buryan are back and looking to end 2020 on a high, or a low in the case of their emotional new single ‘Torn Apart’.
This five-piece have very much been part of the foundation that the budding Newcastle music scene has been built upon, but the band have really stepped up their game this year. From reopening the iconic local venue Little Buildings, supporting Scottish starlets Dancing On Tables to the blistering singles 'Tell Me' and 'How Could I Know?', the quintet really haven’t stopped.
‘Torn Apart’ does mark the end to an unforgettable year for St. Buryan and they’re certainly going out with a bang. The tone is brought down ever so slightly from the previous releases, as the band lay it bare as they articulate a complex emotional state of jaded lovers as they pick each other apart.
Though emotive, it certainly doesn’t lose that fire as the fictional narrative of these two jaded lovers clashing horns is perfectly led by a very beefy bridge and pumped up rhythms. Buryan brilliantly build the tension as the argument comes to close, which is met with a rowdy riff and climatic harmonies as this band’s brilliant year comes to an end.
St. Buryan have certainly been around the block, but 2020 has shown that they have the talent to keep reinventing and inverting their sound each release and one can only hope that this streak will continue going forward for this Geordie outfit.
‘Torn Apart’, the new single from St. Buryan is available now on all major streaming platforms.
