Danika Smith - 'Sweet Mellow D'

Melbourne’s Danika Smith releases transcendent and timeless folk on ‘Sweet Mellow D’.

Danika Smith travels much ground on ‘Sweet Mellow D’, the second song to be taken from her upcoming debut album, due out in early 2021. Co-produced with Grammy nominated engineer Nick Herrera, and featuring Paul Bender (Hiatus Kaiyote, Swooping Duck) on bass and Maria Moles (On Diamond, Jaala) on drums, ‘Sweet Mellow D’ sees Smith embark on a pilgrimage to self-awareness and contentment.

‘Sweet Mellow D’ drives forward over craggy rhythms. Rhythmic, uneven, atmospheric, expansive. Lilting guitar plucking exquisitely meets dusty percussion and smooth bass lines. Smith’s vocal resonates with rustic beauty, rising from a hypnotic swirl of folky and old western sounds that calls to mind contemporaries such as Stealing Sheep, Stevie Nicks and First Aid Kit.

Magic lives here, oh yes it does.
