EP Review: Shaylen – 'Temporary Feelings'
Rising pop talent Shaylen shares brand-new EP ‘Temporary Feelings’.
‘Temporary Feeling’ is filled to the brim with picture perfect pop anthems. Big beats, big rhythms and big vocals seem to be the overarching theme of the EP. Whether Shaylen goes all out on opener ‘Goodbye’ or decides to take it slow on emotive masterpiece ‘Voicemails’, there is no escaping her enticing brand of sound. Talking about the record, Shaylen reveals: “This EP is a rollercoaster of emotions I went through over the last year, coming out of a really long-term relationship and thinking the world was ending. In the end, I reminded myself, everything—even feelings—are temporary.” Though the EP is only four tracks long, Shaylen covers the entire spectrum, seamlessly shifting from upbeat and empowering to soft and gentle. The song that steals the show is closing track ‘Forgive Myself’. To an astoundingly vulnerable soundscape that lives largely in the background, leaving the spotlight to heart-felt vocals, Shaylen lets her confessional lyricism speak for itself – “Don’t owe nobody nothing, I won’t leave this apartment ‘til I look in the mirror and don’t hate who’s there. I’m learning to forgive myself.”
With powerhouse vocals and a knack for irresistible choruses, Shaylen is a force to be reckoned with. A must listen for fans of Anne-Marie, Mabel and RAYE.
