EP Review: Superlove - 'Superlove'

SUPERLOVE WINTER PROMO 2020.jpg

Superlove formed in 2018 and have gone from strength to strength with each release, this new self-titled EP does not shake that trend!

Anyone who gets a kick out listening to Royal Blood, Don Broco, Nothing But Thieves or The 1975, I am confident will really enjoy what Superlove have to offer with this quite frankly ground-breaking EP. The tracks ‘I Love It’, ‘THINK ABT U’ and ‘Untouchable’ are the singles that have been released prior to the EP coming out which leaves tracks ‘Life Is Great’ and ‘Bruce’ as fresh songs to wrap your ears around. ‘I Love It’ opens the EP and what a perfect way to draw listeners in…Catchy as hell rock with a very Royal Blood-esque recurring riff, instant hooks which will not let you go and duelling vocals between vocalists Jacob Rice and Jon Worgan.

A notable thing throughout the EP is just how well-suited Jacob and Jon’s vocals are together, reminiscent of how tasty Rob Damiani and Matt Donnelly’s (Don Broco) vocals are. There is a nice variety on the EP with everything from meaty, heavy riffs to dance inspired electronic vibes, and the more emotionally driven track Bruce.

‘THINK ABT U’ shows Superlove’s diversity in their song-writing opening the track with a down-tuned djent style riff that you’d expect to come from bands such as periphery and the like. Bruce brings the mood down a little, but not in a bad way, they are reminding their listeners of just how multi-talented they are in their writing, the vocal performances are outstanding and remind me so much of vocalists Matt Bellamy (Muse) and in some ways Thom Yorke (Radiohead) which I hope Jacob and Jon take as a compliment as that Is certainly the intention!

With production on each track at an incredibly high quality. Everything sounds crisp, clear and rich in layers of beautifully crafted synth. Superlove are a band on the rise and worth keeping an eye on.
