’Overload’ opens with sparse textures, seeing Joseph Bells soulful vocal atmospherically lead the track. As the track develops, Bell indulges in dreamlike melodies, seeing chill guitar sounds ricochet off downtempo synth tones to create a swirly and floating ambience. At times, moodier textures penetrate the track’s airy and light melodies, offering an edgy juxtaposition to the song’s uplifting, fluttering tones.
On the ideas behind the track, Bell explains “ I wrote and recorded it on the same night - lyrically it's a fairly abstract late night stream of consciousness. I left all the windows open when I recorded the guitar and vocals, so you can hear some subtle ambience in the background which I think really adds to the mood of the song.”
’Overload’ does exactly what the name suggests. It’s a welcome assault on the senses. It’s a deluge of dreaminess that will have you inhaling every droplet of escapism.
