Public Body - 'Table Manners'
Public Body are a band to keep an ear out for if you enjoy the indie-punk sounds of bands such as Mush and Squid. Having only formed in 2018, Public Body’s latest offering ‘Table Manners’ is their fourth release of 2020.
It’s catchy and a guaranteed ear worm that could be put on any indie-pop playlist. Yet the band add subtle nuances throughout the track – a little riff here, a synth fill there – that makes you put it on repeat and sets Public Body aside from generic indie rubbish. If that doesn’t convince you in giving it a listen, perhaps the fact that the ‘Rugrats’ theme was the biggest influence will.
Despite the fun and funky buoyancy of the music and melodies, ‘Table Manners’ criticises capitalism and UK politics. As we all know, there’s plenty to talk about on the subject, so if you’re getting down about it all, Seb Gilmore’s satirical lyrics will bring you out of a slump.
Public Body have put out some great material over the last year or so, and the fact that ‘Table Manners’ continues this trend and is produced by guitarist Theo Verney indicates that they are capable of doing things their own way and doing it well. Expect their second EP (due Spring 2021) to be excellent.
