Madeline Finn - 'Whipporwill'
Cleveland raised singer-songwriter Madeline Finn gets introspective on ambient indie folk single, ‘Whippoorwill’.
Produced by Ben Cramer (Old Sea Brigade) and Owen Lewis (Phillip Phillips, Banners, Lady Gaga) ’Whippoorwill’ opens with the gentle twinkle of ambient textures and soft piano notes, soon joined by Madeline Finn’s peaceful Phoebe Bridgers-esque vocal delivery.
‘Whippoorwill’ is an introspective single, which Finn explains is “a conversation with my future self about all the things I’d give up to be where I think I want to be. Writing ‘Whippoorwill’ was a challenging exploration into the world of personal sacrifice and the meaning of success.”
As the track develops, it builds on its sparse, execution by introducing slow burning and seductive bluesy rock tones to accompany Finn’s vulnerable lyricism. Bold percussion and reverb drenched guitars guide the track to its opulent, all consuming climax , transforming the track into a flurry of exhilarating sounds before ‘Whipporwill’ closes as gently and modestly as it begins. Just lovely.
