WTHB Ones To Watch 2021

WTHB 1 2 Watch Image.png

2020 has certainly been a strange one for everyone! With venues shut and no fixed plan in sight to get them open fully again, the music industry has certainly struggled to a point of serious concern.
However it has still kept moving, being as creative as ever to keep itself alive. Live streams took over the internet and social media, social distancing shows are now a common thing and we have lost count on the amount of songs now that came from a ‘lockdown session’. Music always fights itself out of a corner, no matter how troubled it may be. 2020 has seen the rise of genres such as bedroom-pop as more people have had to stay at home to write new songs and Tik Tok has taken over the world even more to the point of ‘influencers’ are now releasing music. And with live venues shut, more people have turned to the internet to find that next big thing instead of watching them grow inside small sweaty venues - leading the path to the next Hayley Williams or Pale Waves.

So with that in mind, check out our top thirty musical names you should be keeping an eye on in 2021. All from the safety of your sofa!

Francis Of Delirium, Baby Queen, LIME, Dan D’Lion, ZAND, Lilla Vargen, Lucy Deakin, Rose Gray, Red Moon, Chloe Rodgers, Navvy, Saint Clair, SLANT, Katie Wood, Sody, Goldmyth, Matilda Mann, April, Somebody’s Child, TV People, Dead Pony, Seraphina Simone, BENEE, Phoebe Green, Coach Party, Only Sun, Molly Payton, Lizzie Reid, Yard Act, and Bleach Lab.

Francis Of Delirium

Led by eighteen year old prodigy Jana Bahrich, Francis of Delirium mix nineties grunge with a modern DIY mindset, creating something that is insanely powerfully but equally beautiful. The Luxembourg duo certainly lift the bar of expectation with this new wave of garage rock.

The band chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for them:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
High is probably that we were lucky enough to play some outdoor shows in Germany in the Summer and we played to this really wonderful audience 30 mins from the Czech border on a lake and we got to swim in the lake, easily my happiest memory of the year and then we proceeded to drive 6 hours to get home, worth it. Lows, finishing The Sopranos was a sad day.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
I think ‘Lakes’, everytime I listen to it I feel it in my chest, it’s hard to explain. Normally after I release songs that feeling goes away but I still get it when I listen to ‘Lakes’

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
For some reason I got to the Lianna La Havas album late this year and in the past couple weeks I've probably listened to "Can't Fight" over 100 times. The first time I heard it I listened to it 10 times in a row, so I'll go with "Can't Fight".

Who are your top picks for next year?
I really like what Sorry are doing and am interested to hear what they do next. I want FLETCHER to go the PC music route, I liked the remix SOPHIE did on Forever and would be happy to hear more stuff like that. New Tirzah would also be great.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?

unnamed-54.jpg

What does 2021 have in store for you?
We've got our second EP coming out in February which I'm very excited about and a show in London at Folklore on April 29th. A lot of uncertainty with touring etc. and as always just creating as much music and videos and art as possible.

Baby Queen

All hail the Baby Queen!
If there was one artist that took over the internet this year for us - then look no further than this delightful anti-pop star! Being praised as one of the fresh new voices around at the moment, and this year she has cemented herself as an unstoppable alt-pop royalty.

BabyQueen_315.jpg

Baby Queen chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for her:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?

The highs have been connecting to and building a relationship with the the Baby Kingdom and being able to focus entirely on Baby Queen without worrying about not being able to pay my rent. I also signed my record deal in May which is probably the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I think I’ve really struggled with the added pressure though. This job naturally has highs and lows because it’s so manic, chaotic and exciting at times that you have to come down from it all. I’ve definitely had growing pains.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?

Want Me, because of the outro, and because playing it live is the greatest feeling in the world. It’s just one of those songs that floods energy through my entire body.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?

Oh my god! I haven’t decided between Caribou’s “Suddenly,” “Punisher” by Phoebe Bridgers and “Folklore” by Tay Tay; but honestly I think I’m going to make the decision right now and just tell you what you already know... it’s T Swizzle isn’t it?

Who are your top picks for next year?

Phoebe Green, Abbie Ozard and Kid Brunswick.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be

Chaotic and surprising and overwhelming, and quite honestly the best year of my life.

What does 2021 have in store for you?

Lots of live shows!!! My first festival slots and physical tours... a LOT of hard work, and releasing my favourite music I’ve ever made. 2021 is going to be a big one.

LIME

Fusing together catchy indie and surf psych melodies, with sarcastic social commentary style lyrics. LIME instantly grabbed our attention with debut track ‘Surf N Turf’ - which came out in February this year, and there is just something about their character as a band that makes you crave more with each listen.

The band chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for them:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
Well, this year in some ways has come as a bit of a blessing for us. We have never had so much time to write and hone in on our sound before and it's been super beneficial to our songs and identity as a band. However being stranded apart across the country for months on end was SUPER hard to deal with especially as we normally see eachother like everyday. We definitely don't take our time together for granted anymore that's to say the least !!!!

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
2020 has been super special (and weird) as the first year we've been releasing music the response has been more than we could've ever imagined and it's so cool to see people enjoying the tunes. I think our latest release "Fever" is our current fave, we are so proud of the track we feel like it encapsulates our energy perfectly, and hopefully gets people dancing around their rooms.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
We all collectively LOVE Katy J Pearsons new album "Return" . It's such a melancholic masterpiece, one minute I'm dancing around the next I'm sobbing.  QUEEN ENERGY!!!

Who are your top picks for next year?
I have a feeling 2021 is going to be an INSANE year for music but some honorable mentions we are super excited for are...
Malady
DOG
Drug Store Romeos
Our Family Dog
The Lounge Society
Arlo Parks

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
Tunes, rest and stress.

What does 2021 have in store for you?
2021 is the year LIME takes over the universe. (Corona dependent of course) Hopefully we will be touring and playing sweaty shows all over the country as well as releasing more music than ever before. We are so excited to see what 2021 holds strap on in ladies and gents it's gonna get exciting.

Dan D’Lion

Eccentric, futuristic and truly the sound for the escapism fueled mind. Dan D’Lion has kept us on our toes all year with his unpredictable electronically exciting take on r&b. Definitely a one-off true gem.

Dan D’Lion chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for him:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
It’s been a ride for sure. I've had to adapt the way I work this year massively and that’s come with many challenges, but also has been so encouraging. Being able to have an outlet through my music and still being able to connect with people through that has been the high.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
I have a different kind of love for each song I’ve put out. But my latest ‘APPLE JUICE’ is all about losing yourself and dancing like no one's watching!! For me, I can’t play that song and not jump around the room!

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
Lianne La Havas’ self titled album is my favourite of the year. It’s such an unbelievably honest record. Every time I listen to it I have a new favourite track.

Who are your top picks for next year?
Remi Wolf, Kamal, Qhairo.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
Another wave closer to the beach!!

What does 2021 have in store for you?
A LOT. I’m going in. Expect the unexpected.

ZAND

ZAND’s unique brand of sound may be far from pretty but it’s drop-dead gorgeous in the same way a thunderstorm is marvellously beautiful. Fascinating, impossible to explain and most definitely deadly. With clever wit and hook-heavy choruses, ZAND pulls you in, keeping you firmly hooked on fantastically gruesome ugly pop.

ZAND chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for them:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?

highs include managing to get a little body of work that i’m so very proud of out (my beloved ep “ugly pop”). lows include the obvious, lots of trips, plans, shows, studio sessions and writing sessions getting cancelled (both in the UK and away). it’s not been that great, but musically/release wise for me it’s been fruitful and therapeutic putting new music out.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?

Honestly it’s really hard for me to pick now! each track i’ve made on the EP means a lot to me in its own different way, right now i’m kind of sick of hearing them though because they’re all i’ve been hearing non stop for months in the recording, producing, mixing and mastering process and then again during video editing haha. i need to take a break from listening to my own music for a bit so the novelty comes back. but it might have to be slut money or bald bitch, i'm so proud of my songwriting and production on these tracks. they were a lot of fun to make.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
i have been listening to so many different artists this year, not really whole albums - but either way it's difficult as hell to pick just one of either. rina sawayama has put out nothing but bangers though. XS is an absolutely genius track. no one is doing it like her right now.

Who are your top picks for next year?
Trannieboi, Wargasm, Jess Winter.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
chaos, i don’t know what’s happening.

What does 2021 have in store for you?
hopefully some live shows, definitely more ugly pop.

Lilla Vargen

Having gathered over thirty million streams and supported the likes of Dermot Kennedy on huge arena tours, it is a surprise that Lilla Vargen isn't already a household name. With her heart-on-sleeve style writing style we can expect more great things to come from this rising Irish talent next year as Lilla heads out on her headline tour in the Autumn,

Lilla chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for her:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
It’s definitely been a challenging year, I think the high would have to be having the time to learn how to produce music myself. I’ve loved that whole process and learning a new skill has really helped me. I’d say the low was being away from my family and friends for so long. I’m sure a lot of people have felt the same.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
I would have to say ‘Cold’. It was the start of a new chapter for me and the launch of a much fuller and more realised sound, which I am so proud of.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
It would have to be ‘Set My Heart On Fire Immediately’ by Perfume Genius. This music just speaks to me and I haven’t stopped listening since it was released in May. My favourite track is probably ‘Describe’.

Who are your top picks for next year?
Luz, Dan D’Lion and Huw & the Greater Good. Three very different sounding artists/bands but all amazing!

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
I’d probably say it’s been challenging but has changed my life and outlook for the better. It’s put into perspective what really matters in life.

What does 2021 have in store for you?
I have my headline tour coming next year which is so exciting and I will be recording my album. I can’t wait to share all the music I’ve been writing with everyone and I am itching to get back on stage again!

Lucy Deakin

We can never get bored of Manchester’s most promising pop artist - Lucy Deakin. Glitchy pop hit after another, filled with effervescent energy. And she does it with such ease and grace at the same time, definitely a pop force to look forward to next year!
FFO:
Dua Lipa, Charli XCX, Miley Cyrus

Lucy chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for her:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
2020 was definitely not what I or anyone else expected - a low was SXSW being cancelled 5 days before I was meant to fly out to Texas to play. I’d definitely have to say a high was being on the cover of a Billboard in Leicester Square in London for a week thanks to Amazon Music (a dream!!!)

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
I’ve got to say ‘bad in love’. I wrote this over lockdown and instantly knew before I’d even finished it that I wanted it to be the first single. As soon as the beat comes in it just sets the tone and encourages the care free feeling of being ‘bad in love’ but being okay with that.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
My favourite album of the year has gotta be ‘Plastic Hearts' by Miley Cyrus (if you’ve seen my instagram you know I am the biggest Miley fan ever). I think this album is completely unique to everything else that is being released in pop this year - her voice sounds incredible and it feels like she’s really found her home with this album. My highlights are WTF Do I Know, Gimmie What I Want, Hate Me, Night Crawling (feat. Billy Idol) and Midnight Sky (of course!).

Who are your top picks for next year?
Going to superstar status - Kim Petras is well on her way. She released her debut album ‘Clarity’ last year which was one of my favourites of the year & also this year ‘Malibu’ which was my escapism lockdown 1.0 anthem - pure feel good, bubble-gum pop - she is everything you expect a pop star to be.
In terms of UK pop I think L Devine is amazing, top picks from her include Naked Alone, Like You Like That & Daughter. Also GRACEY - I really love Like That & Don’t Need Love and I think she’s going to be a name popping up in 2021.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?

What does 2021 have in store for you?
I’m going to be releasing lots of new music! My main focus currently is writing as much as possible and I feel I’m creating the best music I ever have - I’m so excited to share it already! Covid dependent, I’m also hoping I can play lots of live shows - I have a tour booked for April so fingers crossed that will go ahead!

Rose Gray

East London’s Rose Gray provides us with a new burst of energy into the music scene with her tracks this year, hitting deep at the soul of a dance floor with a true British voice. If her last single ‘Save Your Tears’ is anything to go by, Rose’s new EP ‘Dancing, Drinking, Talking, Thinking’ is gonna be a complete knockout!

Rose chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for her:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
The end of summer was a big low for me, but I wrote a song a day, so something good came from that shit time. Highs..definitely just releasing music, and feeling like I’m really in it creating music that I love. I’m excited by it. I just moved to Bow with my best mates, Ioving our little flat and life. Biggest high of the year was filming the video for Save Year Tears (Feb 22nd 2020) Our last proper night out, the energy that night was crazy. And getting a cat at the start of lockdown...young misty blue

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
I think maybe Same Cloud, it felt like a moment for me. Like it was the beginning of a whole string of singles that really put me in my groove. I feel like I’ve found my own little lane. Indie ravey pop music. Feels right

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
Roisin Murphy ‘ Roisin Machine’ is my favourite album of the year- I love this women. I’m also very in love with everything Biig Piig has put out this year.

Who are your top picks for next year?
Sad Night Dynamite, love everything these guys do.
Otta - she has this one song I think I’ve listened to over 100 times ‘Everything You Wanted’
Josie Man..shes a beautiful little fairy

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
Found some beauty in the mess of it all

What does 2021 have in store for you?
My Mixtape ‘ Dancing, Drinking, Talking, Thinking’ is coming end of January. Hopefully a uk tour spring time, fingers crossed we return to normality. But still lots and lots of music and fun. Hoping summer 2021 will be like the summer of 89. Revival of the rave scene. I think this may just happen, the world needs to dance.

Red Moon

Norway’s Red Moon feels like someone who belongs in a fantasy world - holding onto that fairy-like quality as she takes you on an enchanting journey with each track, providing an almost cinematic adventure for her audience. For those of you who love strong vocals and big landscaping production - Red Moon is the one for you.

Red Moon chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for her:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
It’s definitely been a really intense year on many levels. The release of my first EP “Phase I:XI” has been a huge highlight, as some of these songs have been waiting to get out to the world for quite some time, and I have been so passionated about them.
I see this year as an interesting opportunities we have to reflect and get to know what truly is important to us and practice more empathy and humanity. In these uncertain times it particularly is essential to create something that makes me feel something, whatever mood that might be. Music and dancing has definitely been a great outlet/relief for me.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
I love all of the songs on Phase I:XI as each song mean so many things to me, but I definitely have weak spot for Dogma and Dreamer, as these songs feel like my core songs, with different purposes. In a way Slow Down has also been a really therapeutic song for me, to feel calm and being present in a moment. It’s like I wrote a mantra to myself.
Dreamer is a song that makes me feel really empowered especially when performing with the band.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
Some of my favourite albums I’ve listened a lot to have been “Aromaticism” by Moses Sumney and “Pang” by Caroline Polachek and per usual a lot of Radiohead that I can’t pick one album.
There were also some new songs that came out this year that has become some of my absolute favourites like: “Plans We Made” by Son Lux, “Are You Even Real” by James Blake.
A new discovery has ben Khushi with the song “I Know” and the hauntingly beautiful collaboration between Olafur Arnalds and Josin with “The Bottomline”.

Who are your top picks for next year?
Definitely looking forwards hearing more from all above mentioned artists and also been waiting to hear the long awaited album from Laura Mvula’s. I hear she’s been working on an album the last 3 years, so I am super excited. I’m also waiting for more music from Askjell, St. Vincent, Kelsey Lu, The Clementines, Lianne La Havas, Susanne Sundfør and Kimbra.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
Challenging, grateful, revealing and rewarding. I get to see and experience more and more who I am close to and what is important to me. I think that itself is really valuable.

What does 2021 have in store for you?
I’m really curious of what 2021 will have in store for us, as nothing is predictable. But I am so excited to get more of my music out there. To share stories and new experiences when it is possible to go and play and see show’s. I am definitely ready for the next chapter to come.

Chloe Rodgers

Nottingham based artist Chloe Rodgers has been lapping up the praise this year, not only for her work with Twenty Committee, but also breaking out with her own solo material. A sublime voice with true cinematic atmosphere intent. Digging deep into the dark-pop genre and pulling it out from it’s shadows - Chloe certainly has he talent to be a modern star!

Chloe chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for her:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
It really has been. I’ve probably felt the best I’ve ever felt, and also the worst I’ve ever felt this year. My summer was awesome despite the restrictions. I loved getting to know my sister more in the lockdown, going for midnight drives to look at the moon and going for lots of walks. Went for a lovely trip to Hathersage to stay in a Bunkhouse with my friends when the lockdown was lifted briefly to make up for the lack of festivals which was just lovely. It felt so great to finally start releasing my music this year too, as well as the music I’ve featured on for Twenty Committee, and the responses have been wonderful. I also found love so that’s another plus!  My boyfriend Isaac and his family are just the best. They were some of my best friends anyway but now they’re basically family. I’ve had my fair share of struggles this year too though really. I can’t go into all of it but my mood has sank a lot as winter has approached and a lot has gone wrong. But as of today it feels like things are looking up a bit. Today is a good day!

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
I think ‘A Delphian Lullaby’ is my favourite. I just love everything about the song, from the lyrics and the melody to the arrangement, title and artwork. I’m really proud of how it turned out and really glad that Anders pushed me out of my acoustic little comfort zone with it. It just feels like it belongs in a film when I listen to it, especially the instrumental part. And the double-bass playing by Edoardo Bombace is just outstanding in my opinion. I think the music video for ‘Faces’ was my favourite of the visuals though.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
I think the song I’ve listened to the most this year is ‘everything I wanted’ by Billie Eilish. I must’ve watched her lockdown tiny desk concert about 20 times and cried every time. The song is about when she had a dream that she killed herself and no one cared, but she woke up and knew she had her brother to look out for her. The way she expresses her darker feelings and how her brother makes her feel like she isn’t alone in the world is just so beautiful and her voice is unreal. The fact that she refers to killing herself as getting everything she wanted just completely breaks my heart but I’m glad she turned her feelings into such beautiful music. I try to do the same thing as best as I can.

Who are your top picks for next year?
In terms of bigger names, I’m going to be looking out for Arlo Parks, Anderson Paak, Fleet Foxes, probably Morcheeba, Underworld and CloZee too. Thinking more locally and of rising names that I think should blow up, I can’t wait to hear more from Whisky Moon Face, Mollie Ralph, Tori Sheard, Motormouf, Kate Lomas and lots more!! A bunch of my mates have just started a jazzy/pop/hip-hop kinda band called Pablo too which is gonna be so wicked when gigs are back on.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
Really f*cking intense in many ways. Including some good ways too.

What does 2021 have in store for you?
It’s really hard to predict with the pandemic. I’m about to start work as a carer and I’m going to write and release as much music as I can - that’s all I can be sure of.

Navvy

Pulsating beats and sparkling electronics that intertwine effortlessly with magnetic vocals is the best way to sum up artist Navvy. Along with her EP ‘The Final Pieces’, she has been taking us by the hand and inviting us into her alt-pop world - pushing us all through to the other side. And feeling stronger and brighter as she breaks down our boundaries for us with her music. An inspiring artist for the future if you ask us!

Navvy chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for her:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
It has indeed. I luckily am coming away from 2020 with a lot of highs actually - I played my first ever headline show in January and we sold it out, I spent a bunch of time with my favourite people without having to rush anywhere, I bonded with some other friends that are so cool and that was a real highlight. Lows were also a plenty - obviously it's been disappointing to leave so many possibilities as just that, without getting to explore them. Like everyone, I had a lot planned for 2020, and we kind of had to leave it as that - a plan. But that's OK, I've been using this time to write some of the best songs of my life and figure out what's next for me.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
I released 2 EP's this year, and I really do love them both so completely. I think my favourite song I have released is a song called 'I Learned To Lose A Friend So Young'. That song is the most honest I have ever been, and I wrote it with two of my favourite people - Josh Naley (Wells*), and Simeon Kavanagh-Vincent (Lucky Boy^). It's tough to listen to but I am extremely proud of the way we were able to encapsulate grief.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
This question is impossible, so I'll name my top 3 albums of the year. For sure Folklore - Taylor Swift. That album was everything I've ever needed, especially in a time of isolation. Also Punisher by Phoebe Bridgers. I am late to the Phoebe Bridgers party and I am embarrassed but I have ARRIVED and I am here to stay. 'Three. Two. One' by Lennon Stella is also SUCH a great album. Women making clever, interesting, beautiful music - what more could I ask for.

Who are your top picks for next year?
I think New Zealand music is super cool, at the moment and just always. I love acts in New Zealand like Wells* / Levyne / Foley / Paige. I also loved an EP that came out this year by Cate Canning, who is a Canadian artist. I'm hopeful that 2021 will be a strong year for new artists too. It feels like after a year of people being inside and discovering how to make music on their computers, we could be in for some absolute bangers in 2021.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
Long. Educational. Really quick.

What does 2021 have in store for you?
Well, I guess no one really knows. I live in London now, so a lot more writing. I have already written songs in the last month that I can not WAIT to put out. I have some ideas for some bodies of work too, which will be fun. Luckily I am from New Zealand, so I'm heading home in March to play my first in person festival (!!!!), and then I guess you'll have to follow me to find out! @thisisnavvy everywhere !

Saint Clair

Sometimes in the musical world - a goddess just walks into it that needs no explanation but just truly exists. That is how we felt when we discovered and watched Saint Clair unravel in front of our eyes over the past twelve months. As she took us on her creative journey, we learned that Saint Claire can be summed up in two worlds - powerfully magical.

Saint Clair chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for her:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
A high would definitely be releasing my visual EP ‘in the violet hour: a portrait on grief’ which I made with my sister following the loss of our dad. We even managed to premiere it on the big screen between lockdowns. Lows would be not being able to play live for so long - I really miss the interaction and connection.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favourite and why?
Probably the stop animation we made for ‘better’ which is the fourth and final chapter of my visual EP. The first three videos depict quite a turbulent and dark journey through grief but ‘better’ offers hope and acceptance and I always find it very moving.

What is your favourite track or album of the year?
I melt every time I hear Ayoni’s ‘Unmoved (A Black Woman Truth)’ and Steve Lacy’s ‘Playground’ always lifts my spirits and gets me dancing around my flat.

Who are your top picks for next year?
Okay Kaya, Holly Walker, CHILDCARE, Noya Rao, Thandii

I’ll be releasing some live videos directed by my sister (who else?) as well as an extended version of the EP (does that make it an extended, extended play?) and some amazing remixes. I’ll also hopefully be able to do an immersive live show as I’d love to play this EP with my band and integrate the visuals which are such an intrinsic part of the music. And I joined Bombay Bicycle Club at the beginning of this year so hopefully touring will resume so we can pick up where we left off!

SLANT

Let us introduce you to Brighton glam-rock powerhouse five piece SLANT - who take a vintage genre and break it out of it’s traditional mould with their riot grrrrl energy. Considering themselves as ‘self-confessed attention seekers’ - we will certainly be watching with great detail on what 2021 has in store for SLANT.

The band chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for them:

2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
HIGHS: 2020 saw us releasing our first two singles which has been really exciting for us. We were really happy with the response we received from 'Haircut' and 'La Danse'. 2020 also challenged us to find new ways to perform in this year's climate. For example, we did an impromptu gig in front of the upside down house on Brighton seafront as well as a live stream with the Close Encounters Club.
LOWS: As a new band in 2020, it has been hard not being able to perform live at proper gigs with a proper sweaty audience.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
'Haircut' was 1 of 2 tracks we released this year but also happened to be our first release ever which made a momentous occasion for us.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
We've been indulged in too much great music this year but our top three album releases of this year are:

So When You Gonna... by Dream Wife
Swimmer by Tennis
Twin Heavy by Willie J Healy

Who are your top picks for next year?
Katy J Pearson, Dream Wife, Working Mens Club, Albertine Sarges

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
A series of unfortunate events.

What does 2021 have in store for you?
World Domination.

Katie Wood

Katie Wood takes us back to a period of time when pop music was filled with the greats! Looking and sounding like the secret love child of Kate Bush and David Bowie, this London based New Romantic has been inviting us into her glam-rock world this past year with her magnetic but satirical pop.

Katie chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for her:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
It really has! Releasing music and having valuable time to spend on it has been amazing but this year generally has been so difficult for everyone and it's really taken me back, it's a lot to process and wrap your head around.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
Probably my latest single "Where Have You been?" mainly because I always prefer what's newest, but also because I was really exploring sounds while writing it and having a lot of fun. I feel like my sound is ever changing and developing and when I hear something I made a year ago I think damn I can do better than that haha.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
Definitely "Aleph" by Private World, a friend of mine sent me this band and I have just been so obsessed since I heard them, it's really clever, precise and sophisticated music, with this 80's twist. I love it.

Who are your top picks for next year?
I'm looking forward to hearing more from Phoebe Bridgers, she just seems to be eternally growing as an artist and I really admire her. Also Dorian Electra, they never fail to surprise me and I love their authenticity, and another artist I have been really into recently is Claud, I think they have something special.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
It's just been f**king sh*t

What does 2021 have in store for you?
Big question... more music, I am in constant competition with myself so I am going to be trying to push everything further and just have fun while doing it, ultimately the plan is to release and make a lot more content!

Sody

An artist on the rise, Sody is on an emotional journey to the top and is taking us with her. At only nineteen years old Sody has had tracks featured on Love Island UK and amassed an impressive 50+ million collective streams.

Goldmyth chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for her:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
I've definitely felt so many highs and lows like everyone this year, but I've really enjoyed being able to be in my studio every day to create. With shows out of the mix, it's actually been so nice for me to just focus on writing a ton of new material with way fewer distractions, I think that's my jam to be honest!

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
I just released a track called Isn't It Easy and I'm very proud of that one. It feels like something I wrote to speak to myself and calm myself down amidst the chaos, and I still really love listening to it, which I don't usually love listening to my own songs.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
I love this collab by Benny Sings and Mac DeMarco called Rolled Up. I still haven't been able to stop listening to it because of this feeling it captures for me of melancholy tinged happiness. That feeling is how I would sum myself up so when I find things that sound like that, they stick.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
Thank u, next.

What does 2021 have in store for you?
A lot of new music, probably in the form of singles leading up to an EP.

Matilda Mann

Following debut EP ‘If That Makes Sense’, ‘Because I Wanted You To Know’ paints a more refined image of Matilda’s endearing brand of sound – a sweeping take on folk that reinvents itself with every song. With a captivating songwriting style and truly mesmerising vocals, Matilda Mann is setting course for her rise to the top.

April

The beauty of genre-bending is that, more often than not, the result is brilliantly timeless. Sprinkled with clever hooks, captivating vocals and sharp, confessional lyricism, April’s EP ‘Luna’ packs something for every taste. This EP is a clear statement of intent. Not only an ode to April’s intoxicating brand of bedroom pop, but a glimpse of a promising future.

April chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for her:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
2020 has been wild, it feels like 5 years have gone by but also feels like it’s been like 1 month hahaha, there’s definitely been highs like I signed a record deal, released music, planned a tour for next year, made some music I love, having time to relax and take time to myself & be with family and people I love all the time has been great. Lows have definitely been part of 2020 too though, some days can get really repetitive and it’s been easy to fall into bad habits or overthink things, but overall it’s been a good year :)

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
I think 'Would You Let Me In' is a current fave, I always change my mind but having Kojaque produce it was sick & seeing a song that used to be so different become this whole new thing was so fun. I always listen to it and it instantly puts me in a good mood.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
That’s a tough one, Ariana Grande Positions has a top 3 place in my heart anyway, POV is her best song imo. King Princess has released some bangers. Oh and Biig Piig’s new songs are her best ever.

Who are your top picks for next year?
Kean Kavanagh is an Irish artist who I want to take over the world cause he’s literally the best.
Cosha is another artist I see big things coming for next year, she is insanely good. Lava La Rue is making some amazing music too.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
Scary, Weird, Different, Blurry but also good

What does 2021 have in store for you?
2021 will have me releasing some of my favourite music I’ve made, hopefully touring in Europe if life gets back to some sort of normal, travelling & dancing in a club with loud music ASAP.

Somebody’s Child

Having been making waves in Ireland over the past years, Somebody’s Child is finally catching everyone’s attention with his big indie singalong tracks - sitting there somewhere between a George Ezra and Alfie Templeman vibe. With a successful EP release and signing to award winning Manchester label Scruff of the Neck this year, 2021 will certain go off for this lad!

Somebody’s Child chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for him:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
2020 has definitely been a strange one for us all, but I like to think we made the most of it. We self-released our debut EP which really seemed to put us on the map, and we signed with our label which has been a great help the last few months. Obviously it's disappointing when you feel like it's going to be your year and you have all these gigs lined up that get cancelled it's disappointing, but we've focused on the positives and really gotten into things creatively.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
Our EP 20-something took up the majority of the year for us and was constantly being pushed back so when we finally got it out it was really relieving the music connected with people. We were sure about the music and knew it just needed to be out there, but it's always great to have positive feedback about your art.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
Michael Kiwanuka's album is also phenomenal, along with the Strokes' The New Abnormal. Everything Else Has Gone Wrong by Bombay Bicycle club also. Any of those three.

Who are your top picks for next year?
Pillow Queens from Dublin came out with an incredible album this year called in waiting. I'll go with them.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
alcohol. music. movies. books.

What does 2021 have in store for you?
Lots of gigs hopefully, plenty more writing, loads of releases - hopefully a couple EP's too.

TV People

The Dublin scene has been taking over the indie-punk world the past few years with the rise of Fontaines D.C and The Murder Capital. Next to burst from that hype is the moody TV People. Taking the genre down a more darker route - by hitting you hardest with their creativity when it is at it’s most fragile moment, it is no surprise that they have gained early support from the likes of BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music.

The band chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for them:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
2020 was a very turbulent year for us. At the start of the year, we were gigging constantly and building great momentum. We had lots of plans for the year and were really excited about what could come from it. When the first lockdown happened in March, all of our plans for the year went out the window. We had to cancel some big gigs, postpone recording sessions, and completely change how we were writing so that we could do it remotely. We tried to put our heads down and get on with it, but it wasn't always easy to do. We were used to playing gigs or rehearsing together most nights of the week, so the sudden stopping of all of that was a bit of a shock to the system for us.
Despite that, the last year has also encouraged us to grow creatively. Our normal style of writing had always been to meet up in our rehearsal room and improvise ideas until something stuck. Because lockdown forced us apart, we became more reliant on putting demos together by sending ideas back and forth to each other. Writing like this forced us to be creative in a new way. Every member of the band has stepped outside of their own instrument and we're all collaborating at a level that we never did before. Our music has benefitted from this and we're extremely excited to release some of it next year.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
We are very proud of all the music we've released this year. We wrote 'Nothing More' at the start of lockdown and it was the first proper demo we made outside of the rehearsal room. I think everyone was in a heightened state of emotion with everything that was going on. Paul wrote the lyrics about his experiences with existential anxiety which was definitely something that we could all resonate with at the time. We were extremely proud of the unusual form and style of the tune and it definitely represents an intense time and place in our lives. We got to eventually record the tune in Darklands after the first lockdown and it was amazing to see the demo come to life in a live setting when we heard the final mix.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
The Strokes - The New Abnormal

Who are your top picks for next year?
Do Nothing
Smoothboi Ezra
Silverbacks
Aoife Nessa Francis
Gemma Dunleavy

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
Chaotic, experimental, endless, exciting

What does 2021 have in store for you?
Things are still a bit uncertain as of now but we're planning on making the most of next year whether there are more lockdowns or not. We're going to record our debut EP in the first few months of 2021 which is a huge moment for us. We've been building towards the EP for over a year now and it'll have our best music so far on it. It's an exciting time for us and we can't wait to get it out there.
We're also optimistically looking forward to getting back to gigging. We've written a lot of material since we played live last so it will be nice to watch people's reactions to the new songs. We feel that our set is much stronger than it was this time last year so we're really excited to get back on stage. Towards the end of next year we're also hoping to get over to the UK to play a few gigs. We've had a great reception to our tunes over there so it would be nice to get over and play a few shows.

The band chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for them:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
I think our lows this year have been just generally not being able to play gigs and go on tour and like everyone else not seeing family and friends. We have had a lot of highs though. My biggest high this year was our live stream for New Colossus festival in NYC. It felt like we were playing a real gig and it felt so good to all be in a room together playing again

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
For me it has to be 23, Never Me. The song is really personal to me and the reception it’s gotten from our fans has been insane. I also love performing it live and can’t wait to play it live when everyone knows the song.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
I have kind of struggled to find the motivation to actively seek out new music this year and have found myself getting quite nostalgic with my music choices. Having said that, I think that Marmalade by Gallus is the best tune I’ve heard this year.

Who are your top picks for next year?
Definitely Lizzie Reid. She’s just released 3 amazing and beautiful songs and I can see her going really far in 2021. She just oozes talent and is an insanely skilled musician/songwriter so I am really excited to see what she gets up to in the new year.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
Ground hog day

What does 2021 have in store for you?
We have a lot of new music planned for the new year and also we’re in the process of recording our debut EP. Other than that we’ll just be gigging and touring a lot and we have a bunch of festivals lined up too.

She chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for her:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
Highs have definitely been getting my shit together and putting out music, it's been a solid constant in this weird ass limbo year and it's kept me pretty hyped.
Also I sang BVs on Self Esteem's upcoming album which was like inhaling medicine, just singing these very empowering songs surrounded by women, everyone sweating because it was summer and the studio was boiling. Like some menstrual moon ceremony or something.
Lows - not being allowed to watch two of my best friends marry each other is pretty rubbish, as is seeing how little of a shit this government gives about the arts. I'm worried about the live sector, especially grassroots venues that aren't corporate-backed that are like the plankton of the music scene and without them the whole thing will just decay into a soulless beige soup of muzak and superstars.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
Probably Skin. It's got this onomatopoeic trippy laziness that I love because it sounds like daydreaming about someone you fancy. The vocals are actually the guide ones that I recorded in my bedroom on an SM58, which is the first mic I ever bought. It's crap for recording but is so fuss-free and easy to set up that I just grabbed it to get the melody down, and because it was late at night I was trying to be really quiet, which gave the vocals this sleepy fuzzy quality that really fits the track. When I got into the studio I tried re-recording the vocals on so many different mics and nothing sounded as good as that shitty SM58 lol, so we just kept them in.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
070 Shake's album Modus Vivendi is gold, and Gabriels' track 'Love and Hate in a Different Time' sounds like it could have been put out at any point in the last 60 years and would be that cult nugget in people's vinyl collection that they'd be really smug about.

Who are your top picks for next year?
Loving Baby Queen and a big fan of LA-based artists WENS and TRACE, duo Bestfriend and London-based Two Tribes, Wings of Desire and Tycho Jones. Also gonna namecheck my mate Tom who's just put out an EP called Exodus on Astro with his band Spain v Spain, about a fictional dystopian estuary resort.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
Take the red pill.

What does 2021 have in store for you?
Welllll I'm in the studio at the moment recording tracks for an EP, so the plan is to put that out around summer next year, then get straight back in to record a second one. It would also be awesome to play live. But honestly who the fuck knows, 2020 has shown that making anything more than vague plans is a sisyphian task as shit keeps changing and it's like whack-a-mole. HOPEFULLY what 2021 has in store for everyone is a whole lot better than 2020 !

BENEE

It is no secret that NZer BENEE has been on the right path to become a household name in the new alt-pop scene since her debut in 2017. However, it wasn’t until recently that her music went viral. Her album ‘Hey u x’ consolidated her position as a force to be reckoned with in the industry.

Phoebe chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for her:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
There has been an abundance of each, a high was definitely this EP release and feeling as though I’ve been able to channel all of the restlessness and uncertainty into something meaningful, as well as using it as a time for some much needed growth musically and personally.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
I think despite ‘Reinvent’ being so unique and doing so well, ‘A World I Forgot’ is the one I feel the most emotionally invested in as it’s the most vulnerable lyrically and the most experimental and free I have been musically, so it feels special to me.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
Album of the year for me has either gotta be ‘925’ by Sorry or Punisher by Phoebe Bridgers... my fave song has gotta be is ‘As The Sun Sets’ by Sorry.

Who are your top picks for next year?
My pals Document, Mealtime and Witch Fever, all extremely juxtaposing, but so good at what they do.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
Cathartic, transitional and rewarding.

What does 2021 have in store for you?
So much! New music, hopefully gigs, I can’t wait for this shitter of a year to be over with so we can all reset

Coach Party

Fast-rising Isle of Wight four-piece Coach Party quickly caught the attention of Steve Lamacq with their high-energy shoegaze indie pop after releasing their debut track via Chess Club - home to the likes of Alfie Templeman and Phoebe Green. The band chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for them:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
2020 has basically been our first year as a band, and we had what we would consider a pretty sick debut year planned out. So, our lows are seeing all of those plans go down corona's cruel drain of misery and hatred. High-wise, we were fortunate enough to release our debut EP "Party Food" with Chess Club and see the 10" copies sell out within a day of its release. We couldn't, and still can't believe that happened. Maybe people bought out of c-19 boredom, so, thanks corona?

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
In September we released "Can't Talk Won't", which was our first bit of new music out since the "Party Food" release. It's arguably our fondest release this year, just because we were relieved not to get a "not as good as your old stuff" response. We're also so stoked with the beautifully directed video by our man Daniel Broadley who coached us through an ambitious, 1-take, neon soaked, social club dream of vids.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
Steph: Fat Earthers - Social Distancing
Jess: Miley Cyrus & Dua Lipa - Prisoner
Joe: Cribs - Running into you
Guy: Weezer - Beginning of the end

Who are your top picks for next year?
We're (Jess is) banking on a big MCR comeback. Also we really like Baby Queen, Ed Nash and Sometimes.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
Shit times twelve

What does 2021 have in store for you?
Pretty much a 2nd attempt at 2020. Gonna be releasing loads of music, hopefully touring, having 2 birthday parties each.

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
Well, my dog is sick of the sight of me and my spice rack is in perfect alphabetical order but I'm definitely ready to get back on the sweaty UK show scene.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
EXTRAORDINARY! Hands down my favourite song we have ever written and I've been excited to get it out there for what feels like an eternity. It's a slight step in a different direction for us and we hope it hints towards some pretty erratic releases in 2021. We’ve really tried to take new ideas and themes into our new album, people keep mentioning the word maturity!

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
My personal highlight (for singles) is either Glowing In The Dark by Django Django or Big Climb by Everything Everything. Definitely a dash of recency bias in there but who remembers January anyway?!

Who are your top picks for next year?
Well, I heard this band Only Sun are releasing an album... I've actually heard it already and it's pretty good. But seriously, my music taste changes on a week in week out basis and so I couldn't possibly predict what's going to make my ears prick up in 2021. I'm sure it'll be good though!!

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
Lying low.

What does 2021 have in store for you?
Album album album album album album album album. Only Sun are releasing a debut album, did we say that already? We've been playing music together for over 10 years and everything has just been practice for this moment. You better believe that this is all we'll be talking about for the foreseeable future. We’ll fingers crossed be playing some live dates in 2021 as well, this is something we’ve always done and built the band on, getting back out to play to people and maybe even hopping on a eurostar to Paris! We’re holiday shopping already.

Molly chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for her:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
The year started off pretty spectacular for me! I started releasing my first EP at the beginning of the year when I was in New Zealand and played my first gigs over there, and then played my first US shows in march. I then came back from that trip straight into the first lockdown in the UK and proceeded to get writer's block for the first time, which went on to last about three months. That was probably the lowest point of the year for me. Being isolated like that was making me confront and deal with a lot of previous trauma, and not being able to communicate and sort through it with music how I normally would was really hard. Looking back I’m actually really grateful I had that time to pause and figure things out for myself.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
My favourite release experience was my first ever song 'No One Else'; I was at my lake house in New Zealand with my mum and my best friend and we went out on a boat to the middle of the lake at sunset and had a few drinks and played it off Spotify for the first time. Being at my favourite place in the world with the most important people in my life made it feel really sweet and special. In terms of the music itself I’d say my favourite song I’ve released this year would be 'Going Heavy', from my second EP Porcupine.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
I’d have to say either Floatr by Happyness or A Hero’s Death by Fontaines D.C.

Who are your top picks for next year?
There’s so many exciting artists around at the moment. Happyness have been one of my favourite bands for a while and I’m excited to hear whatever they do next, and my buddy Oscar Lang’s new stuff is fucking exciting and makes you practically desperate for gigs to come back so you can go and thrash about to it live.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
Just really shit

What does 2021 have in store for you?
I’m doing a tour in New Zealand at the beginning of the year, then ill come back to the UK in march and get started on my next record :).

Lizzie Reid

Joining the Seven Four Seven Six well known roster of up-and-coming indie acts which includes Matilda Mann and Matt Maltese, we have Glaswegian singer/songwriter Lizzie Reid who introduced herself this year with her incredibly sincere single ‘Seamless’. Lizzie chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for her:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
This year has been really hard but it has also been very exciting to release music for the first time. As much as I would’ve loved to be able to play the new songs live, I’m so grateful to have had the chance to release music with support from my managers and the team. Another highlight of the year was when I actually recorded the EP with Oli Barton-Wood, right before the first lockdown. That was one of the best experiences I’ve had and I hold some very fond memories of that time. It does feel like a lifetime ago now.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
I really don’t think I could pick a favourite because I love them all for different reasons. I’m very proud of Always Lovely as a song but Tribute and Seamless resonate with me in a slightly different way. Tribute makes me feel warm inside and I just love the flow of the song. Seamless was more of a challenge emotionally to write so I connect to that in a similar way but I often feel drained having listened to it!!

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
I’m struggling to pick between Laura Marling (Song For Our Daughter) and Phoebe Bridgers (Punisher). They’d be my top two albums this year. The song For You on Laura Marling’s record holds a special place in my heart. I also adore I See You from Punisher.

Who are your top picks for next year?
My top picks for 2021 would be Holly Humberstone, Matilda Mann, Molly Payton, Joesef and Skullcrusher.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
I’d say 2020 has been a time for reflection.  Perhaps too much time for it…

What does 2021 have in store for you?
I am hoping that 2021 will involve a lot more gigging, travelling to new places and meeting new people. I will be releasing more music and continuing to work away at what I love to do most!

Yard Act

Satirically and musically brilliant. Yard Act pretty much nailed it this year from the moment go with their debut single ‘The Trappers Pelts’. The minimalist electronic sound has a hint of Madchester, with Sleaford Mods without the barking vocals, favouring an almost cynical Yorkshire drawl. There’s also a bit of Do Nothing, but even that could be considered a stretch. Ultimately, you can’t immediately liken Yard Act to any other band in particular. It’s so fresh and original.

The band chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for them:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
Personal highs have been starting this band. I am so very grateful to have Ryan, George, Sam and our first guitarist Sammy in my life. Lows, I won't go in to here, I'm giving optimism a go y'know.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
Fixer Upper I reckon. It was our BREAKOUT smash hit, we hadn't played it live in a room before it was released, that was a demo. The response to it gave us the confidence to go with our gut and just enjoy the music we make, don't over think it.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
Katy J Pearsons debut has been on heavy rotation since it came out, goes very well with waking up that one.

Who are your top picks for next year?
Sinead O'Brien I really like, looking forward to a long player. I'm excited to see what The Cool Greenhouse and Billy Nomates do next too.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
The best year of my life.

What does 2021 have in store for you?
Civilized conversations with strangers on the internet

Bleach Lab

South London’s Bleach Lab are only a few singles into their ‘band life’ and it already fells like they have a cult following. If you already know who they are, you have already taken in their music and fully understand how harmonically stunning it is. If this is the first time you are reading about Bleach Lab - well… you are about to discover something beautiful. Taking the heart-on-sleeve vocals of Julia Jacklin, mixing it with the opalescent soundscapes of Mazzy Star and Cocteau Twins. It is no surprise to that people are instantly falling in love with this band.

The band chatted to us about the past twelve months and what 2021 has in store for them:

So 2020 has been a bit of a mess for all, but what have been your highs and lows?
Highs- Releasing music during lockdown was nerve racking as we were unsure what the response would be like but we were completely overwhelmed and it lifted our spirits both times. After doing it the first time back in June, we were determined to get another single out this year which we are pleased to say we did.
Lows- Cancelling our first festival slot plus all our gigs was a hard pill to swallow. Watching the impact this year has had on live music in general has been hard to watch and we just hope that 2021 gets things back on track.

Out of all the music you have released this year, which has been your favorite and why?
We are incredibly proud of Never Be our latest single and how it turned out. Everything from writing to producing, it all fell into place. We have been sitting on this track for so long so to get it out finally has been amazing. Plus the response we’ve had makes it all the better.

What is your favorite track or album of the year?
Soccer Mommy- Colour Theory (Album). Every single from this album was amazing, 'Lucy' in particular. However, its strength lies in the fact that even the album tracks are great 'Up the Walls and 'Crawling under my skin' to name a few.
Widowspeak- The Good Ones (Track)- The bassline on this track is just incredible!

Who are your top picks for next year?
We have seen so much great music released this year but some of our favourites include Helena Deland, Slow Pulp & Katy J Pearson. We can’t wait to see what 2021 brings for them.

If you could sum up 2020 in a few words - what would they be?
Groundhog Day

What does 2021 have in store for you?
Let's just say we hoped to have more music out in 2020, so you are just going to have to wait a little longer...
