Jade Bird – 'Houdini'

Following last month’s single ‘Headstart’, Jade Bird shares the second glimpse of what is to come on her upcoming sophomore album: emotive new track ‘Houdini’.

Noticeably slower than ‘Headstart’ but no less captivating, ‘Houdini’ impresses with sparkling guitars and twinkling vocals. Tinged with melancholy and hints of starlight, Jade’s heartfelt lyricism takes centre stage as she makes peace with her fear of abandonment. Talking about the inspiration behind the track, Jade says: "I’ve loved the word/concept for a really long time. All of a sudden, it seemed to be the perfect metaphor for the figures who had left my life in the past. I had no control or choice on their appearances and disappearances - sort of like the man himself." There is a delicate strength to ‘Houdini’’s soft yet gritty melody lines that gives the track a raw emotive appeal and takes a hold of your heartstrings as Jade breaks into a defiant chorus – “If they need lessons on leavin', I'll send them to you, Houdini. “

Last year’s debut album was a stunning ode to sharply observed narrative vignettes of relationships, divorce and everything in between. ‘Houdini’ picks up right where the record left off and paves the way for Jade Bird’s rise to the top.
