Inspired #185 - VEALA

DIY electronic pop two-piece VEALA (Sarah Munro and Matt Kersey) wrap up the year with the release of their deliciously dreamy, debut single, ‘Indecision’. Featuring hypnotic synth, haunting vocals and moody guitar riffs, we definitely weren’t indecisive about wanting to know what is inspiring VEALA right now!

Who are your top three musical inspirations?
Massive Attack, Tom Misch and the 1975.

Is there a certain film that inspires you?
Ratatouille. 'Anyone can cook!'

What city do you find the most inspiring?
Amsterdam.

Who is the most inspiring person to you?
Matt's Dad (John Kersey) - he's a legend.

What were your inspirations when writing the track?
The song ‘Indecision’ came soon after we bought our dream guitar, beginning with Matt recording a riff and haunting bass line. Sarah then popped her head round the corner and grabbed the mic, exclaiming, ‘I’ve got an idea - I’m going to be late for work’. It spent a long time in production, with us refining it bar by bar whenever we had a spare moment. Our mixer June Logue then added his fairy dust! Indecision is all about the frustration of not being able to get through to someone; watching them dart from one thing to another, deluded and living in a dreamworld can be equally intoxicating as it is frustrating. In terms of influences, Billie Eilish and Massive Attack were a big inspiration.

How would you like to inspire people?
I hope we inspire people to be creative! Whatever medium that may take (music, art, baking etc), it's so good to have a release for your mind
