Slow Walk – ‘Sherlock Holmes Would Know’

London-based singer-songwriter Keith Turner aka Slow Walk has brought us a humorous piece of indie/post-punk brilliance with his latest single ‘Sherlock Holmes Would Know’.

A lover’s betrayal is nothing new in songwriting, it’s probably one of the oldest subjects to sing about as it’s easily relatable to everyone. But what makes Slow Walk different is the fun it pokes at both the protagonist and Sherlock Holmes tales. He’s “not even as smart as John Watson” but wants to “solve the mystery of the guy next door who leaves his rubbish by our door”. Well, Sherlock Holmes would know, and it seems as though the protagonist finds out too: “You’re fucking Moriarty and to him it’s just a game/You’re fucking Moriarty and I’m gonna lose again”. It’s a sad story, but you can’t help but smile.

Musically, there’s a bit of a Stranglers feel in the keys and the delivery of the song. But it proves Slow Walk is willing to try anything, as his last single ‘Computer Club Crack the Code’ has an electro vibe, and tracks like ‘When Your Love Goes Away’ is straightforward indie. An EP is due, so expect genre-blurring music with “tales of daydreaming, witches, online lynch mobs and famous detectives”. Can’t wait!
