Tove Lo brings her electric Sunshine Kitty Tour performance to Vancouver’s Vogue Theatre.

You enter the venue to screams and a crowd already singing at the top of their lungs - and in the midst of the madness, a throne sits centre stage. Moments later, the lights dim and Tove Lo is beckoned on to take the crown.

Opening with Glad He’s Gone, her voice parades the room - a powerful force. Hands reach over the barricade and their fingertips graze against the singers. Lo periodically takes a seat on the golden throne, still managing to hold the audience’s gaze as she remains dancing energetically. The lyrics ‘I’m a cool girl’ radiate from the stage as she seductively sways from side to side of said throne - looking around, the same power is beaming throughout the crowd and their sultry dance moves.

After confidently lowering her top earlier on, Lo exclaims that “titties are beautiful guys,” to which the audience cheers on. As an artist, it is so moving and incredible to see how body positive and female-empowering Tove Lo is - unafraid to be bold and quite frankly, herself. She is influencing women to be themselves and showing what it’s like to simply not give a f*ck.

Later, she talks of dealing with judgement after releasing Habits, explaining that “I decided I (would) either care about their comments or maybe I’d say fuck off, there are real problems in the world and I’m gonna be myself.” Then, performing a beautifully raw solo of Moments, she embraces imperfection and welcomes the idea that ‘I might fuck up the keys but mistakes are charming.’

Not that I doubted the throne but it seems more fitting than ever after witnessing Lo’s incredibly influential performance that she be deemed a queen.
