Esbie Fonte sends out a plea for conscious living on her latest doom drenched dream pop single, ‘Time Traveler’.

Esbie Fonte has been making a career out of creating enchanting yet often intangible songs where part of their charm is the mystery behind their autobiographical lyrical themes. Fonte has allowed her listener to peer into her world through dirt-speckled windows, allowing us close, but not too close, as she creates predominately melancholic and dark soundscapes that blur the lines between fantasy and reality.

If ther eis one thing that can be said about Fonte it is that she is consistent in creating engaging, thought-provoking songs delivered with a huge amount of artistic integrity, authenticity and imagination. ‘Time Traveler’ sees Fonte continue in her gloomy and urgent style of songwriting weaving hypnotic, grungey guitar sounds through subtle, dreamy electronics and vivid, abstract storytelling. Fonte’s distinctive and lulling vocal becomes a siren song, seeing her tackle socio-political themes as she considers how the human race is destroying the planet from the perspective of an imaginary future:

Time Traveler” explores an imaginary future in reaction to technological fixation, vanity, and human greed. The chorus, “Don’t cry wolf” is metaphorically responding to a crying and regretful society as the earth reaches destruction. History repeats itself, “Laughing gas and puddles of masks. Stevie Ray Vaughan and the shots that he asked” nods to the self destructive nature of society, referencing masks needed for protection against unclean air, and shots referring to drug use. The final bridge of the song concludes by challenging and parting with the status quo.”

While ‘Time Traveler’ offers a dark reflection of our current times, 2020 looks set for Esbie Fonte to drop some lighter songs that should only further cement her versatility as an artist who refuses to place boundaries on their artistic vision.
