Dizzy - 'Sunflower'

Following their celebrated 2018 debut ‘Baby Teeth’ and 2019 EP ‘Heavy/Twist’ Canadian dream pop warriors Dizzy have released their first single of 2020: ‘Sunflower’- a track that brings back the sun.

Where ‘Baby Teeth’ was inspired by the anxieties of growing up in a dead-end town, ‘Sunflower’ turns all of that angst and melancholy into hope and positivity.

With rhythm-led guitars and irresistible beats, ‘Sunflower’ sheds the grey suit of small-town ennui and paints life in technicolour.

Though they may be going in a more upbeat direction with this one, Dizzy are keeping their fuzzy, dreamy sound that makes hearts skip a beat and doubles the release of serotonin. Breath-taking melody patterns emphasise and play with cleverly placed lyrics that drift between self-deprecating humour and tender self-talk “Take me to the roof, I wanna hear the sound of what a broken heart does when I fling it to the ground”.

Talking about the track, frontwoman Katie Munshaw explains: “‘Sunflower’ is a three and a half minute ‘snap out of it!’ to myself when I’m feeling low, unconfident or not myself.”  - Mission accomplished.
