ERNST - ‘World So Cold' (feat. Anna Yavorskyy)
ERNST reflects on the themes of ageing and loss of hope on chilling indie R&B single, ‘World So Cold’ feat. Anna Yavorskyy).
Opening with emotive keys in sync with melancholy male/female vocals, ‘World So Cold’ wastes no time in allowing its listener to feel its frosty atmosphere. ERNST plays with the dynamics introducing rap segments and disjointed percussive beats and vox manipulation which adds an almost anthemic warmth to the sonic textures, juxtaposing the glacial feel in the more despondent parts of the vocals and instrumentation.
ERNST also experiments with distinctive, dystopian textures on instrumental breaks which adds another level of unease, drama and poignancy as the track explores the theme of age related depression, before fading out on a powerful manipulated vocal fuelled by sorrow. A harrowing and intelligent piece of music that really resonates.
